Tom Cruise is reprising two of his iconic roles in Top Gun and Mission Impossible but it’s not looking good for Cruise. The ending of the both the movies is bound to leave the fans disappointed.
Tom Cruise has never shied away from playing any role that involves him performing stunts and a lot of action. He has no reason to. Those are exactly the kind of films that have made box-office history and went on to become successful franchises.
We are of course talking about Mission Impossible and the six successful movies under that name enjoying worldwide success. But that is not the only action-packed movie that Cruise has webbed into a classic by his acting skills and action too. Top Gun still remains a fan favourite even though it premiered almost three decades ago.
- The Top And The Impossible
- The Mission That’s Literally Impossible
And by the grace of Paramount Pictures and their smart-money making business minds, Top Gun is back again. So is Mission Impossible.
The Top And The Impossible
Tom Cruise is ready to break a lot of hearts again playing the iconic character Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell. Being one of Navy’s top Aviators he has no sense of security in his mind, only the target.
When it was announced that Maverick is making a comeback, fans were left in a frenzy of shock. The trailer saw Cruise along with a cast that includes Milles Teller and first ever female pilot Monica Barbaro, John Hamm and Glen Powell. Many fans wondered if it is a possible hint for the end of the Maverick.
It would only make sense. The trailer for Top Gun: Maverick showed a much older Cruise called back in to duty to train the younger aviators to become more “him”. Even though the trailer didn’t give away a whole lot except an overwhelming dose of nostalgia, one thing was made clear: Maverick might not survive this movie.
Which only makes sense to pave a way for the younger cast like Milles Teller and Monica Barbaro to take over the Top Gun franchise. And of course balance the insufferable amount of pressure that lies in following the footsteps of an actor like Tom Cruise.
But that’s not all that is not cruising safely for Tom Cruise.
The Mission That’s Literally Impossible
There is more bad news still to be digested. Cruise will also be returning as Ethan Hunt, the superspy bringing his enemies to their knees. The dilemma in question is that while Mission Impossible has been renewed for a 7th and 8th part, the director for the upcoming movies Christopher McQuarrie has more responsibility than producing edge-of-your-seat stunts for Cruise (or his stunt-double) to perform.
In order to leave things exciting enough for the audience for Mission Impossible 8, Ethan Hunt our protagonist alongside his partner Rebecca Ferguson might face failure in MI7. One member of Hunt’s team, most probably Ferguson might not live to see MI8 is an end that we can bet on. It will leave things intense enough for MI8 to pick up as Cruise’s character Ethan Hunt carries on the mission.
Well, it looks like MI7 will walk so MI8 can fly.
