You read that right! ‘That ‘70s Show’ has had so many plot holes over the span of 8 seasons, fans are now demanding a reboot for rectification.
While we have all loved and continue to love ‘That ’70s Show’, there have been questions that never got answered, whether it is about Fez’s identity or Hyde’s parents. Fans are now busy seeking these answers with the hope that it may lead to a possible reboot of ‘That 70s show‘. Let’s find out what plot holes the show left!
- Red Forman wasn’t as strict with Laurie
- Fez and Laurie’s marriage status
- What about Donna’s sisters?
- Where did Hyde’s parents disappear?
- Which foreign country was Fez from?
Red Forman wasn’t as strict with Laurie
In the television world, Red Forman was the epitome of what a strict parent looked like. Throughout eight seasons of the show, Forman was particularly always mean to his son Eric who, with time, learnt how to bear the nags and taunts his father constantly threw at him. Even though Eric tried to be a goodie two shoes for his parents, Red somehow was always more affectionate towards his daughter.
Laurie was the older and yet manipulative child of Red and Kitty. While her mother did not agree with Laurie’s “care-free” lifestyle, her father didn’t mind his daughter hooking up with random men or even marrying one of them. In his eyes, she was the perfect child that Eric never was. Clearly, both parents had their favourites, but for fans, seeing Eric being kicked around to get his father’s approval got exhausting after a point.
What country is Fez from?
Fez was a foreigner among his Wisconsin ‘white’ group. Nobody would’ve been a better Fez than Wilmer Valderrama made him be. He was funny and strange, and yet a charming character. Fans are glad that the showrunners introduced him to them. However, what continued to remain a mystery throughout the show was Fez’s home country.
Based on a few hints Fez dropped from time to time, some fans suggest that he was from the Dutch Virgin Islands. “Fez has told us throughout the series that his home country is an island, they’ve fought against the British, and his best friend Andrew is from the West side of the island and speaks with a British accent. Besides the island has a British and Dutch name”, said the fan.
What about Donna’s sister?
In the premiere of the show, the Wisconsin gang had one more member who didn’t make it that far into the sitcom. As a matter of fact, this person didn’t even make it beyond episode 1. Who is this person, you ask? If you guessed Donna’s sister, then you’ve got it right!
Tina was introduced in the first episode at Donna’s party in their house. But after filming the pilot, the creative team decided that they wanted Donna to be an only child. Much of Donna’s storyline and characteristics is centred on her family life and how she is stuck in the middle of her parent’s separation. So, it only made sense that the showrunners wanted Donna to be the sole focus of the drama between Bob and Midge.
Fez and Laurie’s marriage status
At the end of season 5, Fez finds out that he is about to get deported because he was on a student visa. The only way he could stay back as if he could somehow manage to become a legal citizen. The Wisconsin gang was deeply upset until Laurie shows up from college and promises to fix things with her family. But what does that have to do with Fez?
Well, Laurie knew how much the foreign boy meant to his brother. So, as a favour, she offered to marry him. This, of course, was a nice gesture. But knowing how manipulative, selfish, and impulsive Laurie has been in the past, her offering to marry Fez was absurd.
Fans of the show would know how much she liked taking advantage of everyone, especially men who had loads of cash on them, which Fez clearly didn’t have. By the time she returned from her one-woman honeymoon, Laurie is back to being horrible to her family, and she treats Fez even worse than she did previously.
Where did Hyde’s parents disappear?
Much like Fez’s unknown family, Steven Hyde’s parents, Edna and Bud, didn’t show up as often as they could have. Hyde’s mother, who worked in the school’s cafeteria, was introduced in season 1. She recurred a few times in the first season, but it was later revealed that Edna ran off which forced Hyde to move in with the Formans.
Bud re-entered the scene in season 3 but didn’t hang around for too long and left Hyde disappointed for a second time. It was not until season 7 that Hyde found that Bud was not the real deal and that his real father was still out there, who eventually meets and bonds well with him.
