The Umbrella Academy is back with an equally explosive season 2, but this time, the show-runner is prioritizing a spin-off than a season 3.
If reports are to be believed, then the creator of the latest Netflix binge, The Umbrella Academy, is planning a spin-off. Based on a comic book by the same name by Gerard Way, the show garnered love from fans all over the world since its premiere in February 2019. And 15 months later, The Hargreeves are back with a season 2.
Highlights:
- It’s time for a Klaus-centric spin-off
- Did Steve Blackman support the notion?
- What The Umbrella Academy is all about?
- Will there be a season 3?
While fans are still trying to cope with the cliff-hanger, show-runner Steve Blackman left them with speculation about a spin-off. How true is it? What has Blackman got to say about it? Let’s decode.
It’s time for a Klaus-centric spin-off
Blackman and actor Robert Sheehan, who plays Klaus Hargreeves, recently spoke to Digital Spy about what the future holds for The Umbrella Academy universe — season 3 or a spin-off. It was revealed that a spin-off will be in the picture if the numbers tally up to show high demand for the mother show.
Klaus is the top choice for the central character. Sheehan told, “I’ve loved playing Klaus. It never feels like coming to work. It’s fun to work. Klaus is the head of the gang; he has this sort of trickster god energy, a natural innocence.

Playing Klaus is a great source of creativity. If I am given a chance to play it again, absolute-bots!” That’s not all. During the interview, Sheehan expressed his idea about the spin-off around Klaus and his muscular brother.
Did Steve Blackman support the notion?
Blackman is a numbers-man. According to Screenrant, he told Digital Spy, “We can do a miniseries with them [Klaus and Ben, or Klaus and Diego] for four or six episodes. But, you don’t want to overdo something. I think Robert could do his show on Klaus, but only if there’s an appetite for it.”

Will there be a season 3?
Netflix has not yet announced whether or not the Hargreeves will be back on-screen. But since season 2 has ended with an epic cliff-hanger, season 3 is guaranteed. So, the only question is when.
