The blazing success of ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ on Netflix may push the case for rebooting ‘BoJack Horseman’ and call for ‘One-Punch Man’ Season 3.
An animated show about a 12-year-old boy who trains to bend elements to his will, and is set in an Asia-like world, would not be your first choice of a record-breaker. But such is the case, and ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ on Netflix (US) has indeed shattered viewing records!

Appearing on Netflix’s daily top 10 list for nearly a month consecutively, ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ can perhaps pave the way for renewed interest in other animated shows.
Just how successful has ‘Avatar’ been?
The success that ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ has met with, on Netflix, is uncanny, to say the least. That is because not only is the show not produced by Netflix, but it is also an old one with all its episodes and seasons already having aired (on Nickelodeon, no less!) between 2005 and 2008.
According to an article in “Forbes”, ‘Avatar’ has appeared on the ‘Top 10 Shows’ list consecutively for 58 days. That is huge!
How so? This is because every time a new show or season is released on Netflix, it receives a considerable amount of hype. And then, there are other cult shows that can serve as competition. But none of this seems to have affected ‘Avatar’.
How ‘Avatar’ could help other animated shows
Could the unprecedented success of ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ be leveraged to help the case for other animated series?
Let’s take the hilarious animated sitcom ‘BoJack Horseman’ for example. The cult show ended earlier this year with season 6, even though fans bemoaned its going away and did a campaign to extend the show for more seasons. But the finality with which the makers presented the character arcs of each character, coupled with Netflix actually cancelling the show with its sixth season, makes it look like another season would be hard to come by.

And yet, since ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ on Netflix has been such a success, it could boost a ‘BoJack Horseman’ reboot.
Generating hype
Then there is also ‘One-Punch Man’, the widely popular comedy animated series. Based on a manga, ‘One-Punch Man’ enjoyed wide success in terms of popularity on Netflix as well as sales in merchandise for the duration of both its seasons.
However, even though the show has a sufficiently large fanbase, not enough fanfare has been created to demand season 3. As we know, Netflix looks carefully at the interest a particular show or season garners, and since there hasn’t been enough interest shown for this series, there hasn’t been a season 3 yet.
And now, it seems that ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ has all the potential to change that and bring about renewed interest in these shows! Don’t you agree? Let us know in the comments!
