The Resident season 4 has finally been renewed by Fox. Here’s all we know about the new season, the release date, and which cast member will be returning.
Staring immorality right in its face, The Resident kicks off when the head of an Atlanta Teaching Hospital, Dr. Randolph Bell, kills a patient on the operating table in the middle of a routine surgery and coerces his team to cover it up.

- The Resident Season 4 will bring in new revelations
With three successful seasons already underway, a lot of speculation and buzz have followed the medical-drama series in anticipation for a fourth season. Well, until we have an official announcement, what should we expect?
The Resident Is the medical drama to go for
For everyone pegging it as the next Grey’s Anatomy, let me burst that bubble. Because it’s not. While Grey’s Anatomy is the kind of drama that capitalizes on the emotions of its audience and is about the interpersonal bonds that develop when you’re working sixteen hours a day in close proximity, The Resident is quite possibly the opposite of it.
This show captures the dark side of medicine. It’s a gritty, dark medical-drama that operates on the idea of power — the kind where major issues faced by the US hospital and medical systems are addressed head-on. And to add to that, the chief has a secret: his body is starting to let him down.

The Resident very cleverly dives in the dirty and muddled part of a few practitioners of the medical profession. It shows how a few bad fish in the pond can taint one of the most sacred professions in the world. For example, one of the characters states “cancer” as “our biggest revenue system.” So, what have the previous seasons of the show ensued?

The journey till now
Season 3’s finale hit home with its eerie similarities, coinciding with the current events of the world. Chastain Park Memorial was dealing with its own fungus outbreak when season three’s finale aired, three episodes ahead of what it was supposed to be, due to the coronavirus outbreak.
After one of their own gets infected, Kit Voss’s son-in-law, Derek, all hell breaks loose. The later part of the season focuses on Derek and his condition that worsens each passing day until Conrad and Cain work a way out to treat him.
Cain also has to perform an urgent surgery on his ex-girlfriend, Justine, who ultimately dies on the operating table (clearly a pattern on this show). So, with Cain in pain, Conrad on a crossroad, Red Rock’s inevitable exit, what does season 4 hold for us?
The Resident Season 4 will bring in new revelations
With the superbug situation fairly under control and Red Rock’s exit plan all but sealed, season four will most likely involve new plotlines and characters.
The show, set to release by mid to late 2021, will see the original cast reprise their roles. Even though it has often focused on the dark side of medicine, the fourth season could see characters like Conrad, Vic, Cain, Aj, Mina, Nic, and Devon unite to save patients’ lives despite the differences they share.
A first in the series, it will be nothing short of delightful to see good triumphing over the evil. Do you think season 4 will see the show shifting gears and treat the audience to something good when the real world has been nothing but a nightmare? And is this finally it for Red Rock?
