Was Abby really pregnant on ‘The Ranch’?
When actresses of long-running TV shows get pregnant in real life, many writers choose to inculcate their “expecting a baby condition” into the storyline of the show. Remember Princess Consuela Bananahammock aka Pheobe Buffay? Lisa Kudrow was pregnant in real-life while she was filming for the popular American television sitcom, ‘Friends‘. The writers of the show came up with a creatively brilliant script to cover up Kudrow’s pregnancy. They choose to cover up her pregnancy by including Pheobe’s brother and his wife’s baby condition.
Based on the reel and real-life pregnancy timelines of Elisha Cuthbert many people began wondering if she was pregnant during the filming of ‘The Ranch‘.
Abby’s pregnancy began in the fifth part of ‘The Ranch’. After a little time jump, we saw her with a pretty convincing baby bump which was filmed in the summer of 2017. Around the time of the release of the fifth part, Elisha Cuthbert welcomed baby Zaphire with her husband Dion Phaneuf in real life. Zaphire was born on the 21st of December 2017. Hence, we can easily confirm that Elisha Cuthbert was pregnant during the filming of part 5.
She was, however, not pregnant in real life when she was filming part 6. Even though she was shown pregnant in part 6 of ‘The Ranch’ whose production went on till March 2018. This can be confirmed through a photo uploaded by Cuthbert’s reel husband, Ashton Kutcher (Colt).
Elisha Cuthbert talks about her pregnancy
In an interview with the “TV insider”, Elisha Cuthbert was asked whether her pregnancy came first or the new storyline?
“I think my pregnancy was something that made the writers think, this could be interesting. We [initially] thought we could hide it, but at one point I remember saying, it’s getting trickier to disguise the fact that I am pregnant! I was pretty much working up until I gave birth. We even shot a couple of scenes through FaceTime while I was on maternity leave!”
For those who are still wondering how did Abby manage to pull a convincing pregnancy look when she wasn’t pregnant (part 6 of ‘The Ranch’), it is common for non-pregnant actors to pull it off through a padded baby bump. Thereby giving the viewers a convincing pregnancy outlook.
