Aren’t we always wondering if the comedy show ‘Parks and Recreation’ will ever make a comeback? It turns out they will, and here is everything we know about a possible season 8.
Rumours that a ‘Parks and Recreation’ reunion is happening has been afloat pretty much since the show ended. Three years after the finale, NBC brought back the cast of the beloved show but not as you’d expect it.
Highlights —
- ‘Parks and Recreation’ is fighting the coronavirus
- ‘Parks and Recreation’, and where we last saw them
- Michael Schur and the very busy cast of season 8
Fans have been waiting for an announcement for Pawnee’s hardworking Park’s department to come back because 2020 is the year of reboots. But is the satirical political comedy returning for good with a full-length season, or is there something else on the cards?
Let’s find out!
‘Parks and Recreation’ is fighting the coronavirus
‘Parks and Rec.’ returned to the screen for the first time after the show ended, and they did that for an excellent cause. The entire colourful, diverse cast returned to the screen for a half-hour special- scripted episode that benefits Feeding America’s COVID-19 response fund.
All of the shows familiar faces starred in the episode, with the characters gathering virtually. Of course, Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) led the zoom call from the comfort of her shared home with Ben Wyatt (Adam Scott).
The plot for the one-off special was focused at current events too. Pawnee’s most dedicated civil servant will stay connected to her friends even while social-distancing. But the only question (with a lot of emotions) that came up after seeing the beloved cast reunite was, why is a full-fledged season not happening already?

‘Parks and Recreation’, and where we last saw them
‘Parks and Recreation’ ran for 7 seasons from 2009 to 2015, and the sunny, cheerful show had a massive fan-following. New audiences have been discovering the show every year (still), and there is an increasing demand for the show to come back now. The finale ended with a flashforward to show the characters’ fates at different points in the future.
In the final episode, we see Andy and April became parents, Donna and her husband set up a non-profit. Ron was shown as a superintendent for the National Service Park, and Tom became a best-selling author.
Leslie and Ben were shown in a future scene accompanied by secret service agents (but their exact ending was purposefully left ambiguous), which is a clear indication of a possible return for the show.
So, what does the cast have to say about it?
Michael Schur and the very busy cast of season 8
The Michael Schur created show (who also created gems like ‘The Good Place’ and ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’) has proved very lucky for people who starred in it. Following the aftermath of the success of the show, the entire cast moved on to do great projects.
Chris Pratt (Andy) is now one of the most loved MCU superheroes, Aziz Ansari has a solid career as a standup act, Amy Poehler is a writer, actor, and host, and Aubrey Plaza has a thriving film career. At the same time, Retta stars in a comedy show on NBC, ‘Good Girls’.
So, getting them back together for a full-season is extremely hard but not impossible if they wish for it to happen. And it turns out that the cast does want it. Ahead of the NBC special reunion, the entire cast said that they would drop everything in a second to return to ‘Parks and Rec.’.
The time to drop everything has arrived, and there is no better time to announce a reboot than the year 2020, the year of reboots.
