The story so far..
The series is set in the 9th Century AD, back in the time when England was divided into seven different kingdoms. The Anglo-Saxon territory is inevitably attacked, looted, and successfully controlled by Viking Danes.
The territory of Wessex is the remaining last major bastion against the Danes. Now, the earl of Bamburgh Castle has to fight against all odds to save The Last Kingdom.
The protagonist of the show is Uhtred, a Saxon child who’s raised by Danes. However, Uhtred later betrays the Danes after he comes to know it was him (Danes) who killed his father. Uhtred is forced to travel to Wessex, the only one out of the seven kingdoms that isn’t under Danish control.
The first three seasons of The Last Kingdom were based on the first six novels of the series. The fourth season will be based on the next two novels, i.e, the seventh and eighth, entitled Pagan Lord and The Empty Throne.
