How far did the show make it?
The King of Queens’ is an American sitcom television series that originally ran on CBS from September 21, 1998, to May 14, 2007, for a total of nine seasons. The nine seasons amounted to a total of 207 ‘King of Queens’ episodes. The series was created by Michael J. Weithorn and David Litt, who also served as the show’s executive producer.
Inspired by the original 1950’s TV production ‘The Honeymooners’, the series stars Kevin James and Leah Remini as Doug and Carrie Heffernan, respectively, who are a working-class couple in Rego Park, Queens, New York. These two actors comprised the main cast of ‘King of Queens’ and were also responsible for the show’s widespread popularity.
Doug is an average parcel delivery driver who works for the fictional International Parcel Service. Carrie
s, on the other hand, works as a secretary in Manhattan, first for a law firm and later for a real estate firm. During the show’s run, these high school sweethearts were the most interesting married couple on TV. The show survived for eight years winning several awards such as the TV Music Award in 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004.
The actors have now become synonymous with the roles they played on the show, and fans are expecting that the earlier ‘King of Queens’ cast will reprise their roles on the expected 2020 reboot as well.
The King of Queens’ was revived in 2016
In 2016, CBS had some very exciting news that they knew fans would be very thrilled about. Kevin James was returning on small screens in a new starring role as Kevin Gable in ‘Kevin Can Wait
While fans were enthusiastic about this announcement, they still wished TKOQ would be revived instead. However, certain wishes came true, as the original couple were back together onscreen on KCW as a new couple with new identities. To fans, it was quite nostalgic.
“If ‘KEVIN CAN WAIT’ just ignored its first season and season 2 became Season 10 of THE KING OF QUEENS, no one would mind”, tweeted @the2ndletter_B.
Fans think the show is underrated
When it comes to giving lengthy opinions on their favourite shows, fans love sharing their minds on various social media platforms, specifically Reddit. In fact, most episodes of ‘King of Queens’ has been consistently liked by fans. Some fans truly believe that the show was quite underrated and this opinion has to do a lot with how shows in the late 90s and early 2000s were like.
User u/jatd says, “I think people gloss over it because of the cliché hot girl married to a fat guy setup. Maybe it’s the laugh track? I just think there is more to appreciate from this show like Kevin James physical comedy”.
“In my opinion he is best I’ve ever seen and I watch a lot of television. Jerry Stiller’s role as Arthur was simply amazing and I would even say better than his role on ‘Seinfeld’. Add on Patton Oswalt’s role as Spence. The show was consistent through its 9 seasons, it never got too serious or preachy and if it did it reined it in with more comedy”, he added.
Season 10 confirmation and release date
With Kevin James and Leah Remini taking the center stage again as they played their new roles on ‘Kevin Can Wait’ Season 2 it definitely felt like TKOQ revived again. Unfortunately, fans’ petitions and tweets have not been enough to convince the writers to renew the show with a tenth instalment.
But all is not lost. There have been many shows in the past that have been revived after years of announcing its “season finale”, so if the showrunners are motivated enough to reboot the series, there could be something sweet in store for fans in the future. Moreover, the recent rebooting trend in the television industry has only made a ‘King of Queens’ 2020 reboot more probable.
