Kaley Cuoco impressed everyone with her comedic skills for 12 years on CBS’s widely popular sitcom ‘The Big Bang Theory‘. This year in November, she starred in HBO Max’s highly-anticipated mystery drama ‘The Flight Attendant’, which is based on a 2018 novel of the same name written by Chris Bohjalian. The series has been produced by Berlanti Productions, Warner Bros. Television Studios as well as Cuoco’s own production house, Yes, Norman Productions. The show was originally intended as a limited series, but the kind of response season 1 got has prompted its makers and HBO executives to green-light it for another season. Just one day after the season finale of the first season of ‘The Flight Attendant’ was aired, HBO Max renewed the drama for a second season.

‘The Flight Attendant’: Kaley Cuoco shines all the way!
The series follows Cassie Bowden (Cuoco), a sexy, spunky, and spontaneous flight attendant who is big on alcohol and enjoys hooking up with passengers on her flights. Cassie’s reckless antics and bad decision-making lands her in major trouble when she sleeps with Alex Sokolov (Michiel Huisman) one night and then wakes up the next morning hungover with him lying dead next to her! Being afraid of the police she decides against calling the police, but as time goes by and the FBI gets involved, she starts questioning her own actions and wondering if she is the actual killer.

Also starring Zosia Mamet, Michelle Gomez, T. R. Knight, Colin Woodell, Merle Dandridge, Griffin Matthews, Rosie Perez and Nolan Gerard Funk, the series has been met with rave reviews and was lauded for its screenplay, story, tonal jumps, and the cast’s acting performances. Kaley’s efforts in developing the show and working as an executive producer on it have also not gone unrecognized.
The success of the series can be attributed to its Alfred Hitchcock meets New Girl plot and the constant entertainment it provides throughout the 8 episodes. ‘The Flight Attendant’ is an excellent example of genre-melding television and consists of a career-best performance from Cuoco. The show is definitely worth a watch which is why it has become the latest successful original delivered by Max.
Renewed for a season 2
The series aired on the OTT platform between November 26th and December 17th, 2020. The very next day after its finale, HBO Max renewed the show for a season 2 seeing the audience response to it. The show saw an increase in viewership week after week and was the number 1 show on the streaming service by the time its final episode was released.
In a statement issued by executive producers Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter, they said,
“We could not be more pleased to embark on another adventure with our incredible partners at Yes, Norman, Kaley and Suzanne, our wonderful creator Steve Yockey, as well as our collaborators at WBTV and HBO Max. We are thrilled that people have responded so positively to our beloved show and in particular Kaley Cuoco’s incredible, tour de force performance”.
Season 2: What’s to come?
Cuoco revealed in an interview with the New York Times, “We have been having some conversations about what a second season would look like. All of Cassie’s antics before, it was always like, ‘Well, that’s just Cassie!’ What if we go down this route of her living this new lifestyle, trying to be sober and clean up her act, and there is no excuse anymore? And what does work now look like? What does love now look like?”
Showrunner Yockey also revealed that season 2 will show a very different side of Cassie now that she is sober. He also revealed that Cassie getting pregnant, a scenario present in the original book, will be explored only if Cuoco consents to it but for now they are only planning to throw Cassie into another mystery in the upcoming season.
The show will most likely return with the next season either at the end of 2021 or in 2022. Have you watched the show yet? Are you excited to see Kaley reprise her role of Cassie in season 2? Tell us in the comments.
