Remember when Lucifer was cancelled by Fox after its third season? Well, old news. There have been so many developments since then. First thing, Lucifer is officially on board for season 6. Good news, eh?
It was back in February that the Warner Bros. studio was informed by Netflix that they were keen on extending the fantasy drama Lucifer to another season after the fourth one was wrapped up. Showrunners Joe Handerson and Ildy Modrovich sealed the deal for Lucifer season 6.

A Twitter party
Ildy got into a video call with the show’s writers and shared her screen with fans. She Tweeted:
“Hello from the @LUCIFERwriters room! We’re back… and clearly still dorks.”
“Here we are pretending to be frozen. Because that generates good story. #Lucifer #LuciferSeasin6 #LuciferNetflix.”
Fans couldn’t keep calm.
One shared, “So much talent and brains in one screen! Can’t wait to be floored again from the greatness that your collaborative minds serve. Good luck on the writing and so much love for yall!”
Another added, “I can’t tell you how happy I am, seeing this!! I am sooooo excited for season 6, I can’t even express how excited I am!!”
Tom Ellis, who plays Lucifer, had initially been in renegotiations with Warner Bros. studio regarding the deal and had eventually rejected the offer. According to the contract, this could have simply breached the contract. Finally, Netflix entered the scene and signed a new deal with Tom Ellis.
The official Twitter account of the show tweeted, “The devil made us do it. Lucifer will go back for a sixth and final season. Like, FINAL.”
Going back in time
Netflix rescued Lucifer in 2018 too. After Warner Bros cancelled the show after season 3, Tom Ellis expressed his disappointment and the fans started a new campaign #SaveLucifer to save the show. Ellis said, “nothing short of ridiculously overwhelming,” adding: “Since doing ‘Lucifer,’ I’ve done press in various parts of the world, and I’m fully aware that this show is much more popular than what it had seemed to be on Fox … So I’m not surprised about people being angry. I just wasn’t ready [for] this tsunami of love that came with it.”
What is in store?
Now that the dust has settled, let’s talk about the upcoming season? Aren’t we all excited to know what’s going to happen, since the last season ended on a huge cliffhanger?
Chloe confessed her love for Lucifer just before he shot to hell to keep the unruly demons under control. Just when things were getting interesting for the two, we saw the season end.
Season 5 is allegedly going to be about Lucifer’s time in hell. His angel brother Amanadiel will be making a trip to hell to talk about something of grave importance. This will probably be related to his half angel-half human son Charlie. We might witness an interesting turn in the events, with Amanadiel and Lucifer switching places with each other.
Where’s God?
We may also be coming face to face with God in season 5. Who would have thought, right? Dennis Haysbert will be playing the part.
A season 6 is also in the works. Because the pandemic halted production, it is set to hit the screens sometime in 2022.
