Warner Bros Discovery plans for Superman
There are reports that following the merger, the new bosses at the Studio are willing to revive Henry Cavill’s future as Superman in the DCEU. Henry Cavill’s Superman was first seen a decade back in the Zack Snyder directed film ‘Man of Steel’. He has since appeared in two more DCEU films, ‘Justice League’ and ‘Batman V Superman‘. However, the consistently declining commercial response to both the movies forced WB to reconsider their plans for Cavill’s future in the DCEU.
Superman DCEU Future
Initially, there was talk of a ‘Man of Steel 2’, which was very much on the cards after the first film’s release. After the initiation of the DCEU and the introduction of other characters, the plans got sidelined for many years. Following the disaster that was the theatrical cut of ‘Justice League’, it was predicted that Cavill’s future with the DCEU was over and that there would never be a ‘Man of Steel 2’. Despite these pessimistic developments, the actor’s fans never lost hope and kept the film’s hype alive.
The speculations have resurfaced following the recent 43-billion-dollar merger of the two industry behemoths. The newly formed organisation, now known as Warner Bros. Discovery, has some new plans in the works. According to multiple reports, Discovery has always wanted to overhaul WB’s plans for the DCEU. One aspect of their strategy could be to resurrect the character of Superman in DC lore. It’s understandable given that Superman is one of the most popular characters, not just within the confines of the DC Universe but also in general pop culture.
According to one part of the report, published in Variety, the company believes that some major characters, such as Superman, were left to rot. According to Discovery, there are no specifics, but it is almost certain that a major character like Superman deserves better treatment.
It could now mean a continuation of the ‘Man of Steel’ franchise in the form of a ‘Man of Steel 2’. It could also imply a reboot of the series, similar to what DC did with the recently released ‘The Batman’. However, expectations are at an all-time high that Henry Cavill will be seen wearing that iconic blue suit once more.
