If you thought that The Simpsons had a knack to predict the future, meet Stephen King’s “The Stand”. A horror expert, Stephen King wrote: “The Stand” in 1978.
Highlights
- Stephen King’s The Stand will be premiering late in 2020.
- The virus infecting a Texas town and then the world in the story sounds so much like Coronavirus.
- King Tweeted that the virus/flu in the story is completely different.
CBS All Access is all set to stream a brand new series based on the book and the readers are stoked. However, what makes the story stand out and batshit crazy is that it resonates hell of a lot with the current Coronavirus situation. Yep, you heard it right.

Going back in time
The Stand is a story about the majority of mankind and animal life getting wiped off the face of the earth because of a weaponized flu called ‘Project Blue‘. Accidentally leaked in the US Army Base, it is spread to a Texas town through a soldier who flees the base. His family dies of the infection and it doesn’t stop there. The virus is resistant to vaccines and antibodies, leading to endless deaths.
Coronavirus sounds no different
Doesn’t that virus sound like something we have been experiencing lately? Yes, the infamous COVID-19 pandemic. Coronavirus has taken the world by storm and definitely not in a good way. Like that in the story, this one doesn’t have a cure through vaccines and antibodies either. Scary? I know.

In the words of the man himself
The series had started filming late in the last year. The recent uproar had King tweet, “No, coronavirus is NOT like THE STAND. It’s not anywhere near as serious. It’s eminently survivable. Keep calm and take all reasonable precautions.”
Although Coronavirus seems as scary as the virus in the story, it is not so much like it. Recovery rate is high and if precautions are taken to put oneself in quarantine, it can really be fought.
Sure, “The Stand” took future predictions to a whole new level – beating The Simpsons in their game – we can still put a halt to the fear spreading across.
Combating the Coronavirus is the need of the hour right now. Maybe put yourself in isolation and keep clean to avoid getting trapped in its hold.
The Stand will be premiering late in 2020 on CBS All Access featuring A listers like Heather Graham, James Marsden, Amber Heard, Whoopi Goldberg, Greg Kinnear and Alexander Skarsgård.
You know what this could mean if we go bonkers with self-made theories? There’s a link between X-men Cyclops and The Stand. Yes, James Marsden. The fighter, the protector, and the mighty Cyclops could very well bring the essence of his strength to The Stand in his character. Who knows, that’s all they need to combat the flu?
I am pretty excited to see James in the character. Are you?
