Yes, you read that right. As we get closer to the release of the fourth season, there are numerous theories about what’s going to happen next, and who could possibly die. The most popular theory right now is that Hopper is alive but Eleven dies in the fourth season.
- Hopper survives in Stranger Things season 4?
- Eleven loses her powers
- The epic battle which leads to El’s death
Hopper is very much alive in Stranger Things season 4
Season 3 of the series left fans in a fix. From Eleven losing her power to Hopper dying, the show-runners created a great cliffhanger that got the audience’s attention well enough to wonder in store for them in the fourth season.
Before we dive into understanding how Hopper survived, let’s go back to what went down in the season 3 finale. In an attempt to shut off the lasers in the underground base, Hopper is attacked by the Russian terminator, who just doesn’t back off.
He throws Grigori into the energy machine, creating a fan of electricity which acted as a barrier between him and the pathway to the enclosed laboratory. Joyce turns the keys to trigger the machine but ends up killing Hopper (and the Mind Flayer).
But wait, didn’t the trailer of the upcoming season show that Hopper is very much alive? The quick clip shows him in Russia, working with fellow prisoners while armed authorities oversee them. But how did he survive that massive blow-up?
If you go back to the scene where he presumably died right before machine explodes, Hopper moves away from the machine, gets onto the ladder next to him and scurries into the Upside Down before the machine blew up. This makes it possible for the Russians to capture him and they are now holding him captive.
How did Eleven lose her powers?
Eleven’s powers went bust in the season 3 finale. A piece of the Mind Flayer’s blob had burrowed itself into Eleven’s leg, and as the kids attempt some light field surgery to get it out, Eleven realises that it won’t work and uses her powers to cast it out of her body. The attempt came at a cost as she seemed to have lost her powers after that.
Proof: She couldn’t crush a small can of coke really bothered her. Three months later she tried and failed to move a stuffed animal at the top of her closet. Devastated but hopeful, Will tells Eleven that her powers will come back for sure.
Eleven’s epic battle will lead to her death
Various fan theories suggest that Eleven will get her final shot at trying to save her friends but will eventually die doing so. One fan theory suggests, “Eleven will mostly face her equal. Yes there is an enhanced and more powerful Russian counterpart of Eleven waiting for her. Maybe Dr. Brenner is responsible for that. This allows the rest of the cast to deal the scary creatures and Eleven being busy fighting off the enhanced.”
Another fan theory believes there is possibility that somehow El might be able to get her powers back, and while attempting to destroy the Mind Flayer, she will exhaust every bit of it, lose her strength and will eventually die to a lost battle.
