Tom Hardy’s Venom does appear in the recent Marvel film in a post-credits scene. However, it turns out there were more plans for appearances throughout the main events of ‘No Way Home’!
The worldwide theatrical release of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ has vaulted Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures to the top of the entertainment industry. The 27th instalment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is already one of the highest-rated films in recent memory, breaking box office records regularly. With this being the MCU’s first film to fully explore and utilise the Multiverse’s possibilities, ‘No Way Home’ seized a golden opportunity to pay tribute to Spidey’s extensive live-action history with its massive cast. Featuring classic villains like Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus and Jamie Foxx’s Electro was just the beginning, leading up to the big reveal of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield‘s return.

Writer of ‘No Way Home’ reveals alternate scenes for Venom
‘No Way Home’ also featured Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) casting a controversial spell and Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, including Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon. Quite a lot was going on, so it is a little concerning that the screenwriters considered incorporating Venom as yet another antagonist for the three Spideys.

Venom, played by Tom Hardy, did appear in the ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ post-credits scenes. He was in a bar, perplexed, and contemplating a trip to New York, when he suddenly beamed back to his original universe, leaving a piece of his symbiote behind. It will be addressed in the future, but the co-writers of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ recently revealed to Empire Magazine about the deleted Venom scenes and what they would have meant.
According to co-writer Chris McKenna, Eddie Brock appears in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he never leaves a bar. However, in some versions, he appeared earlier. They planned to have him appear at the Statue of Liberty for the final fight. They were even considering trapping him in the Lincoln Tunnel.
Fans will recall that Brock appeared in a bar scene, where he learns about the superheroes and villains of this universe from a bartender before deciding to meet Peter Parker. However, before he can act, he is pulled back into his universe by Doctor Strange’s spell, leaving only a symbiote of Venom behind.
The most exciting aspect of Venom appearing at the Statue of Liberty is that Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man may have recognised the symbiote. Despite the fact that Eddie Brock’s Venom looks nothing like the character Topher Grace played in ‘Spider-Man 3’.
In the end credits scenes of ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’, Hardy’s Venom appeared to recognise Tom Holland’s Spidey. Including Venom and trying to explain why he wants to fight these Spider-Men would have taken too much explaining.
Venom’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Concerning Venom’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, McKenna and co-writer Erik Sommers stated last month that the ‘No Way Home’ post-credits scene “leaves the door open for possibilities“. He added that this was, in contrast, to simply seeing him return and not seeing any symbiote. As a result, it opens up some exciting possibilities for the future.
McKenna said he has no idea about a possible Spider-Man and Venom showdown. That is way above their pay grade. They are part of a larger universe in which they are not gods but rather mortals. He went on to say that it’s a fun idea that the Sinister Six’s sixth member gets stuck in a bar and does not get out, but maybe he leaves something behind. But, once again, they are not masters of the next adventure’s course.
Nobody knows where Venom will appear next. Sony Pictures, which owns the character, is busy expanding the universe with films centred on other Spider-Man villains. Critics panned Jared Leto’s Morbius, but the supernatural vampire thriller opened at the top of the box office. Morbius could appear in future Spider-Man films alongside Kraven the Hunter (Aaron Taylor Johnson), Madame Web (Dakota Johnson), and whoever Sydney Sweeney plays in the expanding Spider-Man universe.
