Set in the East End of London during the late 1950s and 1960s, ‘Call the Midwife’ is a show about a group of nurse midwives dealing with the changes of the outside world while managing their everyday lives. Before knowing more about season 10, here’s a quick recap of the finale episode of season 9
There are many unanswered questions that fans are looking forward to in season 10. At the beginning of the episode, we are shown the residents of Poplar’s prepping up for the bonfire. While some are occupied with their preparations, many are dealing with conflicts in their minds. We see how Petra Bevan and her mother are enthusiastically planning Petra’s wedding and the baby that will come along. However, what leaves us all feeling shocked and surprised is when we find out that Bonnie (who is also pregnant, BTW) is dating Eddie, Petra’s fiance. But just like how all the lies are unveiled at one point of time, Eddie’s double life comes to a halt, when Mrs. Bevan and Petra find him and Bonnie, with their arms wrapped together at sister Hilda’s relaxation class. Unable to confront two angry women, Eddie flees in the night. Later in the episode, we see Bonnie going into labour and delivering a baby girl. Petra, however, has a miscarriage, and eventually, the marriage is also called off.

Meanwhile, Nurse Valerie comes to know about her grandmother’s ill health. She then learns from Dr. Turner that the prison is releasing her grandmother. We see that her grandmother is in grieving pain and, to honour her last wishes, Valerie calls for a minister and changes into her nurse uniform. After this, we are shown Valerie going to bring ice cream for her grandmother as a part of their tradition, but by the time she returns, her grandmother has left the world. In season 10, fans are eagerly waiting to know whether or not the Nonnatus House will be demolished because of the slum clearing.

What do we know about season 10?
Well, sadly, not much has been revealed about the plot of Call The Wife season 10. However, from the past seasons, we can predict that the storyline will revolve around the major historical event that must have happened in that year. Keeping this thought in mind, we can expect a story around the Dunblane Massacre or, maybe, the ghastly Aberfan disaster in Wales, which led to the deaths of many children and adults.
Who will return in season 10 of ‘Call the Midwife’?
As far as we know, all the characters will return to the show, except Nurse Valerie, who was portrayed by the actor, Jennifer Kirby. On 21st August, Jennifer took her fans to her Instagram to deliver this disheartening news.
“After four joyful years spent with Call the Midwife I have decided to say goodbye to Nonnatus, Val, and the wonderful cast, crew, and production team. The program is truly a national treasure, and it will always be a huge honour for me to have been a part of something so wonderful. I can’t wait to keep watching our beloved Nonnatuns from the other side of the screen. Long live Call the Midwife. So long chicks.”
She penned this heartfelt note for all her fans.
As Jennifer’s fans, all we can say is that she will truly be missed in the show. How excited are you for the new season of the show? Drop-in your comments and let us know who your favourite character from the show is and what you expect from season 10.
