Schitt’s Creek up against tough contenders
Emmy’s 2020 will be one to swoon over this year. Schitt’s Creek, yes. But the comedy series is not the only contender.
Facing it is the mammoth hit The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Last Emmy, Amazon Prime Video’s Mrs. Maisel lost it to Fleabag. So quite naturally, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel makers have upped their game and itching to reclaim its crown. However, Gold Derby’s Emmy experts predict that voters are eager to reward POP TV’s Schitt’s Creek that turned out to be a phenomenon.
Schitt’s Creek vs The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
After returning empty-handed from last Emmy’s despite nominations in four categories (Best comedy series, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Costume), this year, Schitt’s Creek is prepared with a whopping 15 nominations.
It not only makes Schitt’s Creek the second most-nominated comedy series of the year, but according to Gold Derby’s Emmy experts, Schitt’s Creek and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel are the frontrunners. As of this date, Schitt’s Creek is leading with 1,483 top choice to The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’s 319.
What Schitt’s Creek all about?
Imagine what would happen if superrich socialite royalties – say the Kardashians – suddenly become penniless and live out of a cheap motel in the middle of nowhere.
The wealthy, self-absorbed Rose family find themselves in a similar situation when they suddenly become broke with the only property left to them being a rundown motel called Schitt’s Creek as a joke. The Pop TV sitcom is the ultimate example of word-of-mouth popularity, making it a cult comedy. The show recently aired its final episode on April 7, 2020, with 501,000 viewers.
What do the creators and cast think of these nominations?
As deadline reported, Schitt’s Creek’s star and co-creator Daniel Levy said during Deadline’s Contenders Television: The Nominees event, “It’s really an unexpected gift. All we wanted to do was create a show about genuine people who are trying really hard to improve themselves.”
“The stories we were telling have overlapped with the huge political shift in America. It’s time when people need to feel a boost, feel a source of change. Therefore, the connection between the show and the viewers has become much more intensified.”
