‘Riverdale’ has finally released the trailer of its fifth season and it captures all shades of dark and dramatic.
The CW’s ‘Riverdale‘ is one of the most successful teen dramas on US television right now. The 2017 series, developed by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, is a more intense and ominous take on Archie’s Comics and stars a popular cast that includes KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Cole Sprouse, Camila Mendes, and Madelaine Petsch. Since its release, the show has constantly been in news because of its melodramatic storylines, musical numbers, good-looking cast members, and their off-screen dating lives. ‘Riverdale’: Intense. Intriguing. Iconic.
‘Riverdale’ is a teen mystery drama series based on the characters of Archie Comics. It follows the lives of high-schoolers Archie (KJ Apa), Veronica (Camila Mendes), Betty (Lili Reinhart), and Jughead (Cole Sprouse) as they learn to navigate through their lives as troubled teenagers in the ominous town of Riverdale.

A regular recipient of Teen Choice Awards and People’s Choice Awards, ‘Riverdale’ has established itself as a force to reckon with in the world of television. Ever since its arrival on Netflix, the series has claimed a spot amongst the most-watched shows on the streaming platform. The show’s USP is its unpredictable plot and fascinating characters that viewers cannot get enough of. As expected, the showrunners have turned the heat up a notch and the new trailer previews a steamier and scarier season 5.
Season 4 proved to be a dangerous rollercoaster ride
With the sensational end of season 4, fans were left speculating about the future of Archie and his gang. Season 4 saw FP Jones become the new sheriff and Betty working with Jughead and half-brother Charles (Wyatt Nash) to figure out the mystery behind the anonymous videotapes that the residents of Riverdale were strangely receiving. During the entire season, Principal Honey kept wreaking havoc in the lives of all the students at Riverdale High despite which the students fought to bring the prom back!
The makers revealed that they had written up to episode 22 for the fourth season but had to cut it short due to the outspread of COVID-19. Showrunner Aguirre-Sacasa revealed in an interview,
“Yeah, we had written episodes 20, 21, and 22 and when we talked about season 5 and some of the big events like prom and graduation, it would feel like a cheat if we somehow didn’t do those. So we’re essentially starting the season with the last three episodes of season 4, and partly because they’re dynamite episodes …”
A few months back, Skeet Ulrich, who played FP Jones on the show, also announced his departure from it.
Season 5: The trailer is out now!
The trailer for the highly anticipated Riverdale season 5 is out now and the season is all set to premiere on January 20th, 2021. The trailer shows a group of new villains and teases Veronica’s breakdown after finding out about Archie and Betty’s brief relationship. The prom is also finally happening and will serve as episode 1 of the fifth season according to showrunner Aguirre-Sacasa.
What has fans most excited is the upcoming time leap in Riverdale season 5! Lili Reinhart confirmed this news on ‘The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon’ and said,
“Season five, we’re actually doing a, I believe, seven-year time jump into the future. So we’re not going to be teenagers anymore … I’m psyched about it. I’m really psyched about it”.
