After underwhelming movies, Disney+ is bringing back Percy Jackson based on Rick Riordan’s adventure book series.
Attention fans of our beloved seaweed brain! It looks like we’ll be signing up for Camp Half-Blood all over again. The streaming service Disney Plus and author Rick Riordan have officially announced that Percy Jackson will be returning as a television series. Here’s the official announcement:
- Percy Jackson will be returning as a TV series.
- What will be the plotline?
- What to expect from Percy Jackson’s Television series?
The author of the popular Greek fantasy series Rick Riordan shared the exciting news along with his wife Becky Riordan on the social networking platforms
The news comes as a pleasant surprise, and we sure can use one in these trying times. If you’ve been following the journey of Percy Jackson from books or just watched the two movies that released earlier (The Lightning Thief and Sea of Monsters), you’d have probably been disappointed. There were many things wrong with the movies and in no way did justice to the story created by Riordan. Fans were quick to point out the flaws such as how the characters didn’t resemble the ones from the books in terms of age, or how little the makers attempted to follow the storyline from the actual books.
There were high hopes to see the movies become equally successful, if not more than Harry Potter—partially because the director of the first two Harry Potter movies Chris Columbus was behind the project. But the result was very disappointing in the end. So it’s only fair that the Camp Half-Blood Chronicles should be given another chance. Fans certainly think so!
What to expect from the revived version of Disney’s Percy Jackson and when will we get to binge watch it? Let’s explore!
Even though there are movie adaptations based on the first two books already, the TV series will showcase the story from the beginning with fresh casting. While the movies starred Logan Lerman and Alexandra Daddario in the lead roles, expect to see new actors take over. It’s also reported from various sources that it will be a complete reboot of the franchise. Since there are five books in the series, it’s highly possible that the new adaptation will be five seasons long as well.
The adaptation will give plenty of room for the story to evolve like it’s supposed to be and bring important plotlines to life.
It’s too early to tell when it will release because the production is still in the writing stages. Based on this tweet by Rick Riordan, we can see that he’s personally involved with the script work.
The filming has obviously not started yet, especially with the current situation, so we might have to wait till the end of 2021 or even further than that. Also, there hasn’t been any news on the casting so it’s possible that it’s yet to happen. As of now, the news is that the actors from the movies will not be reprising their roles in the television version.
About the plotline
The story revolves around a 12-year boy Percy Jackson who finds out that he’s the son of the Greek God Poseidon. Life is anything but normal for him as he faces various hurdles in the form of monsters, and finds himself amid a war between the Greek gods. The five-part book series focuses on his journey along with his fellow demigod friends, Annabeth and Grover, who together take on some unforgettable challenges and battles that come their way.
