The anthology format has seen a significant rise in recent years, with shows like Black Mirror, American Horror Story, Castle Rock, and the new Twilight Zone. It seems like this is the latest trend, and if it is, we are not complaining.
What is Once Upon A Time about?
Once Upon a Time features a love story, but the focus is on breaking the curse that sent all storybook characters to the real world. The curse robbed them of their memories of their real lives and trapped them in a town where they’d never age.
Starring Ginnifer Goodwin, Lana Parilla, Jennifer Morrison, and Josh Dallas, it takes place in the fantasy world of Snow White and the “reality” setting of Storybrooke, Maine. With storytelling devices such as flashbacks/forwards, the audience got to know the inhabitants of Storybrooke and beyond. Childhood stories were retold through classic tales of Emma, Snow White, the Evil Queen, and more.
After seven seasons, the show came to an end, but no one thought the show would last as long as it did. Two years since its initial dismissal, the rumour mill online has started spinning that a reboot is in the works with some of the original cast in it.

So, what is happening? Is the show coming back for season 8?
Once Upon A Time To Epic: What should we expect?
TV Guide reported that show creators Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz are teaming up with Once Upon A Time writer Brigette Hales for a new show. The show, titled Epic, is a new project that Deadline, which first reported the news, described as
“a romantic anthology series set in the fairy tale universe of Disney.”
The new series will take place in an Enchanted Forest-like setup and will focus on a new set of heroes, villains, and magical creatures. Epic will pay homage to the classics, but also put its spin on the classic tales.
The show will also be a step-up from the point of inclusivity. Hopefully, that means more LGBTQ+ representation in the Disney universe, which is the need of the times. So, it’s not too dissimilar from Once Upon a Time, which also took classic Disney characters and mixed them with new sub-plots and character arcs.
The new Disney show
Good news is that the show will be premiering on Disney+, which owns the studio ABC, where the new series will be shot. Fans should be ready for unlimited Disney characters coming their way.
The show, which was meant to be in ABC’s 2020-2021 schedule, has been pushed back indefinitely due to the coronavirus situation, but the writing process is complete.
There has been no official announcement on who the cast of the show is going to be. So, till then, here is to many more Epic fairytales, badass women warriors and folklore coming our way and we cannot wait.
