Highlights
- For amateurs: What in the devil’s name is Lucifer
- The show almost cancelled, then recalled
- Massive popularity will give the series a sixth season too
- Possible plotlines may entail a new ‘Lord of Hell’
Lucifer: The devil’s seduction
Loosely based on a character from the DC universe, Lucifer tells the story of Lucifer Morningstar, the Devil, who relinquishes his hold over Hell and goes against his father to run a nightclub in Los Angeles.
A murder case gets him involved with the LAPD and soon he becomes a consultant for them, working alongside Detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German). As the series progresses, we get an insight into Lucifer’s troubled relationship with his parents and his growing affection for Decker.
There are too many reasons why the series is worth your time, but the most sinful of them is Tom Ellis, the Welsh actor who portrays Lucifer. The ridiculously handsome ‘Lord of Hell’ had viewers drooling over him in no time.
Ellis does a fantastic job in capturing the nuances of his character, oscillating between a confident exterior and a troubled interior. The show also features some undeniably strong women in the form of Decker, Lucifer’s sidekick Mazikeen (Lesley-Ann Brandt) and his therapist Dr Linda Martin (Rachael Harris). These are strong, independent woman who always have Lucifer’s back.

The charismatic characters and the gripping storyline make the series binge-worthy.
The show almost didn’t make it
The show was initially telecast on Fox and almost ended for good when the network decided to nix it in 2016 after the third season. The reason cited by Fox was the lack of any substantial rise in ratings of the show. Executive producer Joe Henderson encouraged fans to save the series and said the reason behind the cliff hanger finale in Season 3 was a desire to bring the show back.
Thankfully, Lucifer has a cult following and fans made the request viral with the hashtag #SaveLucifer and #PickUpLucifer in huge numbers. Twitter revealed that it saw 3.64 million tweets and 5.63 million retweets with the hashtags. Catching onto the situation, Netflix came to the show’s rescue.

After the series bounced back, Ellis got emotional. He said,
“I sort of broke down. It was similar for the rest of the cast. When we got back together, we were just so grateful and thankful to have had this experience. Weirdly, if it hadn’t been cancelled, none of us would have had an inkling of how popular and loved the show is.”
In June 2019, executive producer Ildy Modrovich confirmed the return of the fantasy series for a fifth season on Twitter. However, it got pushed forward due to the ongoing pandemic and will premiere in August 2020 for the highly anticipated fifth season.
Wonderful news: Season 6 ahoy!
In 2019, the makers of the show announced that season 5 would be the last one. However, due to the popularity of the series, its executives, on June 23, announced that the series will be back for a “FINAL final season”. That’s season 6, folks. Bless our hearts!
Ever since the announcement, Twitter and Instagram have been flooded with squealing fans.
Possible hellfires: A new ‘Lord of Hell’?
What is going to happen in the next two seasons? Will Lucifer abandon Hell to be back with Decker? Will he finally be able to improve his relationship with his father? The popular theory says that in order to be with Decker, Lucifer will have to ditch the realms of Hell, and once that happens, there will undoubtedly be a new ‘Lord of Hell’.
The plotline seems like the obvious one if our leasing couple want a happy ending, but we think there may be a few surprises. So, hold on to your horses till August. You know which space to watch for all updates.
