The open-ended finale of Homeland season 8 left the fans confused
In no time, the politico-terrorism thriller went from Carrie-Brody to being the most unprecedented TV series of our time. Eight seasons is a rare accomplishment for scripted drama these days. Those who preserved with the show were rewarded with a bang on the finale episode.
By and large, Carrie Mathison remains a prisoner of war. Over the 8 seasons, she is now the strongest critic of American exceptionalism and a living embodiment. She has somewhat found peace by accepting her true nature- living a lie and a life of pretension. Carrie is the new asset which is evident when Saul beams a smile of fatherly pride.
It was a perfect conclusion for many, but others want a season 9 of Homeland to get more answers.
Alex Gansa teases a potential season 9 for Homeland if Netflix allows
The finale episode left the fans scratching their heads, as well as applauding the series for the unexpected twist. In the last episode of Homeland season 8, Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) swerves her mission to kill mentor Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin) to become his new informant in Russia.
Alex Gansa, sensing the mood of the fans, hasn’t ruled out the possibility of another instalment of Homeland. Alex mentioned that if a streaming platform like Netflix makes an enticing offer, he and Howard will consider making Homeland Season 9.
Howard Gordan has previously made various indirect comments on the prospects of renewal of Homeland for season 9:
The co-creator of the series teased “Never say Never” when asked about the possibilities of them renewing Homeland for Season 9.
“All of us are happy with where we ended the show and the series. Another chapter doesn’t feel necessary at the moment”. Adding further he said, “But who knows what’s going to happen? Who knows what Claire and Mandy want to do? Who knows what Howard wants to do? We don’t know what that looks like. For now, it feels like closure”.
Even though the makers have accepted the end, they have kept the doors open for Homeland season 9. Netflix is finally knocking on the door with a whooping sum to adopt Homeland on its platform and reboot it for the 9th season.
Why was Claire Danes stubborn about cutting a major scene from Homeland finale?
Alex Gansa also revealed that a major scene was cut due to strong reservations by Claire Danes, who plays the protagonist Carrie Mathison on the show. The scene involved Carrie reuniting with her daughter Franny.
He was quoted while speaking to TVLine:
Claire felt very strongly that Carrie had made the decision to leave Franny behind in season 7.
So we resolved that by having [Carrie grab a] photograph of Franny instead of [having a] scene”.
Carrie continues to remain unapologetically ambitious, daring, and the smartest person in the room, and undoubtedly a badass. She is not really going away.
Let us wait for more drama to unfold on Netflix’s Homeland season 9.
