Netflix could be planning on bringing back the hugely popular That 70s Show in the form of That 90s Show, following the success of The Ranch that stars That 70s Show hit duo Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson.
Fans of That 70s Show, take hope. You may have another, very similar TV series to look forward to soon.

After The Ranch proved to be such a big hit on Netflix, rumour has it that a reunion of co-stars Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson and other cast members of the cult classic That 70s Show is in the works in the form of a potential new series, That 90s Show, on Netflix itself.
The Ranch starred That 70s Show lead duo Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson, reuniting them after the show concluded in 2006. In The Ranch, Kutcher plays Colt Bennett, a failed football player who returns to the struggling ranch owned by his family and help them out with it.
Masterson plays his older brother Rooster who stayed back on the ranch. The actors actually played quite similar versions of Kelso and Hyde, their characters from That 70s Show – adult versions of them, perhaps.
That 70s Show: The cult sitcom
That 70s Show was about a bunch of teenagers growing up in Wisconsin in the latter half of the 70s.
It followed Eric Forman and his group of friends that included his best friend and later girlfriend Donna, the handsome but not-so-smart Kelso (played by Kutcher), vain rich girl Jackie, the very sarcastic Hyde (played by Masterson) and foreign exchange student Fez, as they navigated normal young adult life, high school and the struggles that came with maturing.
The show gained a cult following largely due to the element of nostalgia, and also because of the specific, time-relevant humour that could be infused into a series that is set in the past. It also became a show that launched the careers and successes of most of its cast members.
The show is gaining popularity among its younger audiences who weren’t there when it first aired on Fox and are watching the show now thanks to streaming platforms. This means that the time is ripe for launching the show in a different (but similar) format.
What could That 90s Show be about?
Come to think of it, the 1990s is the perfect time period for the characters. The series ended with the end of the 1970s, when the clock struck 12 am on January 1, 1980. A jump to the 90s next would be perfect, and the aging of the characters wouldn’t be a problem either. Eric and his friends would be in their thirties, their parents in their sixties or seventies.
The show could be about the characters as they deal with adulthood and the responsibilities that come along with it. It could be about the characters forming families and other, newer relationships, and dealing with major life events. Indeed it would be a lot of fun to watch them deal with different life situations in their particular ways.
Launching That 90s Show on Netflix would bring about a full circle, since That 70s Show actually debuted in the 90s.
Are the cast members interested?
More than anything else, it seems!
Ashton Kutcher, who played Kelso, and Mila Kunis, who played Jackie were paired with each other on the show, and actually went on to marry in real life. It would be wonderful to see them together now and reprise their former roles!
Wilmer Valderrama, who played Fez, has even expressed his desire for a follow-up movie. The show would work very well if most members came on board. However, Masterson making a comeback on the show seems dicey, following the allegations of sexual assault against him.
Even without Masterson, That 90s Show could still ride on the popularity and fandom that nostalgia-driven content is harbouring these days.
