Onboard for the Netflix exclusive movies will be horror genre veteran and American Horror Story showrunner Ryan Murphy.
The movie is following a long line of past Stephen King novel adaptations that have become part of the classic cinema repertoire such as The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, and also newer blockbuster movies such as the It series. It’s only a matter of time that we get to see if the Netflix movie can stand up to the mentioned movies in terms of quality and viewer experience. Here are all the facts we know about Mr. Harrigan’s Phone adaptation–
What was the novel about?
Horror maestro Stephen King has written more than five dozen in the genre, a mini-library of its own some would say.
The author’s works are known for their well-written storylines and characters and his writing style that is described as a perfect concoction of mystery, horror, and dark ambience. Mr. Harrigan’s Phone is one of his shorter and lesser-known works from a compilation of similar writings released under the name If It Bleeds earlier this year. In the story, a young teenage boy Craig works for a retired businessman Mr. Harrigan, who is very old. Craig has been taking care of his plants, reading him the newspaper etc, since he was nine years old. The story is set in the fictional town of Harlow in Maine.
One day, Craig wins a sum of money through a lottery ticket that was gifted to him by Mr Harrigan, so he decides to make a good faith gesture by gifting a new iPhone to Mr. Harrigan. When Mr. Harrigan passes away, Craig places the phone in his pocket to be buried along with him in his grave. Several days after when Craig sends a voice message to Mr. Harrigan’s phone, he is shocked to find a text message reply from him. Craig soon comes to learn that Mr. Harrigan is not completely gone from this world.
What can fans expect from the Netflix movie?
The movie will be created by the masterful Ryan Murphy, who is no stranger to the horror genre as he was the long-running horror TV series American Horror Story show-runner. It will be produced by Blumhouse Productions, with whom King had worked with previously for Gerald’s Game and who is also credited for creating other genre masterpieces such as Get Out and The Invisible Man.
The movie is confirmed to be a Netflix exclusive, which means that there will be no theatre screenings of it. It seems that not even a global pandemic and quarantine can stop Stephen King from churning out books and Hollywood from adapting his novels one after the other like clockwork. The influence of Stephen King is so vast on the horror genre that some say he should just open up a streaming service of his own at this point. All things considered, the new Netflix flick is set to rock the global audience.
Who will be cast in the movie?
The cast of the movie has not been made official as of yet. Some reports state that Ben Stiller will be involved in the movie in some capacity.
When will the movie come out?
So far, there have been no declarations in regards to a possible release date for the movie. Netflix has not even released a trailer for the film as of now. Filming for the movie has not begun due to the lockdown. If rumours are to be believed, the movie is expected to hit the screens in 2022.
