The romantic-drama struck a chord with its audience who were left enchanted by the charming aesthetics of a small-town setup brought to their screens.
Based on a series of novels by Robin Carr, ‘Virgin River’ quickly became a global fan-favourite and Netflix took no time in announcing its return for a second season.
But, with one of the lead stars leaving the series in the finale of season 1, what does season 2 of the show looking like?
Jake without Mel: ‘Virgin River’ Season 2
The end of season 1 finale left the fans of the show heartbroken. But if you had been religiously following the show up to that point, I’d think that the finale’s events came as no surprise.
The finale saw Mel leaving Jake and the quaint little town with the promise of being gone forever. For Mel, Charmaine being pregnant with the baby of the man she was in love with was more than she could take on.
That insecurity coupled with her own insecurity of being infertile took a toll on her health until she left the only place she had believed to be her safe haven.
After all, Mel and Jack seemed too good to be true.
So, is Mel coming back for season 2?
No ‘Virgin River’ Season 2 without Mel
When a nurse practitioner and recently widowed Mel moves to the town of ‘Virgin River’, to move on from her past, she finds solace and kindness in Jack. Jack, a restaurant owner, and an ex-US Marine falls in love with Mel at first sight, and the rest, as they say, is history.

However, relationship problems between her and Jack force her into the decision of leaving town. But in the finale episode of season 1, Paige’s ex-husband shows up in town and Paige goes missing.
And, after it was confirmed that Alexandra Breckenridge will be reprising her role as Mel in the second season of the show, fans are wondering if Mel’s return will be attributed to Paige’s alleged kidnapping.
Well, we are only glad that Mel is returning.
But who else is returning?
‘Virgin River’ Season 2: Expectations
The news that the show was returning for a second season came before the coronavirus pandemic took over the world and the film and TV industry halted their productions indefinitely for the foreseeable future.
Season 2 of the show is still in the production stage and, with filming halted midway, it is not expected to return till mid-2021. (Sorry about the bad news!)
But, when the show does return, it will be returning with some of the other important characters played by Jenny Cooper, Colin Lawrence, Lauren Hammersley, Tim Matheson, and Anette O’Toole.
We are just some giddy fans over here waiting for Netflix to bring us good news and, until then, dreaming of a reunion between Mel and Jack.
