While there are no official announcements from the makers yet, fans couldn’t help but speculate a secret development brewing in season 8 of ‘Malcolm in the Middle’.
There are some genres that you can’t go wrong with; a dysfunctional American middle-class family is one such trope that never fails to tickle our funny bones. ‘Malcolm in the Middle‘ premiered in 2000 and swept everyone off their feet. Featuring a gifted young man with an IQ of 165, who feels stuck amidst a “normal family“, the show was original, full of unpredictable situations, and had an irrefutable charm. Not just actors like Bryan Cranston, Frankie Muniz, along with Jane Kaczmarek, but the entire ensemble made American evenings special with the laugh-riot, with its heart in the right place. However, despite its greatness and critical and commercial acclaim, the show ended abruptly after the 7th season and aired its final episode in May 2006. There were talks of a season 8, but they reached nowhere with Bryan and other cast members going their separate ways.
- ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ cast reunion took place in 2020
- Is Bryan Cranston hinting at something?
- What can we expect from ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Season 8?
Bryan Cranston’s posts reignited the speculations
For years, many of the cast-members enjoyed obscurity and only recently have the talks of a revival started gaining strong momentum. Well, it all started when show’s star Bryan Cranston set Instagram ablaze in August 2020 when he announced a ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ cast reunion over a Zoom call.
For a minute there, the hardcore fans of the show must have felt their hearts skipping a beat. Could a cast reunion mean something more, or is it just a ‘harmless’ reunion of former colleagues who just want to sit together and chit-chat for a bit? Well, apparently, a script-reading session was undertaken as well. Whatever it might be, it couldn’t and didn’t stop the fans from being hopeful for the new season, which could be the best gift in this panic and pandemic stricken world.
However, this is not the first time that someone from the team has teased the fans. In the alternate finale of ‘Breaking Bad’, Walter White (Bryan Cranston) wakes up with Jane Kacgamarez in the bed, thinking that everything that happened in ‘Breaking Bad’ was just a bad dream, but it didn’t indicate the chances of a revival. What did, in fact, was a 2019 tweet by Frankie Muniz where he took on the revivals of all the ‘dumb’ shows and asked the burning question we all have been asking.
What to expect from a revival?
These could just be pipe-dreams given that there has been no official word from the show’s producers. However, there have been instances in the past when the actors have taken the liberty of announcing well-kept production secrets. Now, as our very own Heisenberg and Malcolm have broken the ice, let’s gather some ideas of what to expect from season 8 of ‘Malcolm in the Middle’.
Now, if the makers decide to somehow cave into the pressure and begin working on season 8 of ‘Malcolm in the Middle’, what can we expect to happen? The show ended in 2006, but the fan-theories haven’t died down and season 8 has been speculated since the show aired its last episode. We have compiled a few of the most relevant theories that might also give the show-runners an idea or two.
Well, the very first thing to take into consideration is the fact that the show’s cast has grown older and Malcolm is not anymore the young Einstein that we had come to adore. He will have grown up, and become a patriarch of his own family, with maybe a couple of kids running around his house. It would be interesting to see how his kids would turn out. (Cue – Young Sheldon. *wink*)
Reese, Hal, and Louis’ second son, who finally graduated high school in the finale season, could become one of the key cast members. Some dramatic story-arcs between Malcolm and Reese could further be an interesting development for the show and the character dynamics. The show’s core audience has also matured, so a little bit more maturity among show’s principal cast couldn’t hurt.
Perhaps, it’s just a matter of time before the highly awaited “good news”!
Maybe the cast members know something that we don’t and we are in for a surprise announcement in 2021, to save us from the abomination of the year that 2020 was. Apparently, the cast members have been calling for it for quite some time. Let’s see how long until Linwood Boomer, the creator, gets on his social media one drunken night and spills the plans for a series revival. It’s not always too-bad-to-day-dream, right? Only time will tell whether ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ revival series ever materializes. Until then, the reruns are there to keep us good company!
We would like you to fill us in on any detail we might have missed, in the comments. Also, tell us what’s the best and most realistic fan-theory you have heard about the series revival of ‘Malcolm in the Middle’?
