Don Draper can at times be viewed as one of the most interesting, captivating, and overall relatable characters in the history of television. While ‘Mad Men’ is often thought of as an ensemble (perhaps a great one!), the story primarily revolves around Don.
The story largely concerns his personal adventures, and audiences witness the seismic sociopolitical changes of the 1960s largely through his increasingly oblivious and out-of-touch perspective. The fact that the entire series revolves around Don Draper puts a great responsibility on the actor playing his role in the series. Who do you think should be given this massive responsibility? Did the real Don Draper actually die in the end?
‘Mad Men’ had one of the most twisted and controversial endings in the history of television. Don goes to a retreat in California, in an effort to find some kind of enlightenment after all the pain and suffering his lies have caused, not only himself but just about everyone he’s ever come in contact with.
Don Draper was a troubled soul. He had been stuck running from his past as Dick Whitman, he constantly turned to alcohol and women in order to make himself feel better. Alas, the ending of the series is very unpredictable which shows him either jumping out of his office window or just creating an advert and going back to being his old self!

Is Tom Hiddleston fit for the role?
In a recent spotting of an upcoming thriller by the name ‘High Rise’, Tom Hiddleston can be seen looking slightly conflicted, almost like Don Draper with this black suit and elevator backdrop. A few insights about ‘High Rise’ will lead you to realize the resemblance it possesses to ‘Mad Men‘. It is based on a book of the same name by “Crash” writer J.G. Ballard and is set in ’70s London in an exclusive community called “High-Rise“. Hiddleston is set to play the character of Robert Laing, a doctor in search of a glamorous lifestyle.
But, like the never-ending search of ‘Mad Men’ for happiness, material success does not always result in happiness. Elisabeth Moss also stars in it.
Is Tom Ellis just tailor-made for this role?
Tom Ellis has often been viewed as an actor who knows how to play both lively and grey characters as was evident in his recent show ‘Lucifer’. It is difficult to neatly characterize his role in the category of either a protagonist or an antagonist in the show. This makes him all the more suitable for the role of Don Draper. Draper’s character seems to have a style that is suave and gives a confusing yet, often, demeaning vibe.
His looks also perfectly fit the character of Don Draper. Don Draper was devilishly wicked and handsome. Who better to play him than the devil himself? In the end, no matter which actor we side with, both of these Hollywood hunks have stolen plenty of hearts to play just about any role. In fact, both of them have the skills to nail it and transform the role into absolute perfection. Therefore, there’s no definite right answer to this particular question since both of them are absolutely perfect in their own unique ways!
