The hit series was renewed for a fifth and initially final season on June 6, last year 2019. Fast forward a month, Netflix ordered more episodes, increasing the episode count from 10 to 16, to be released in two parts with different release dates. The first part of Lucifer season 5 released in its entirety with 8 hour-long episodes on August 21, 2020, on the streaming giant.
So far, there has been no official update on the release date of the second half of the fifth season. However, it has been widely reported that filming for the B-part of the 5th season won’t resume earlier than mid-October. Still, it is subject to change in case there is a spike in the cases of COVID-19. If it manages to wrap up the filming according to the schedule, ‘Lucifer’ Season 5 Part 2 is likely to release sometime in 2021 on the platform.
So far the collective response of excited fans on the show’s fifth and final renewal news pushed the network to revive it for a second time in June 2020, this time for a sixth and final season. As for the 6th season, we can only hope that Netflix releases it by 2022.

A sneak peek into the potential plot
Despite bidding goodbye to Chloe at the end of season 4, Lucifer returns to earth but he doesn’t seem like the Lucifer the earthlings know.
Soon, we learn that the Lucifer on earth is actually Michael Demiurgos, Lucifer’s evil twin brother, who’s hellbent on wreaking havoc in Lucifer’s life. Amenadiel reveals the truth to Lucifer, informing him that Michael has threatened to hurt Amenadiel’s son, Charlie.
In the finale of season 5’s first part, Daniel and Lucifer learn that Chloe is held captive by Michael in a cave but Maze rescues her from Michael’s clutches. We shall also get to see Lucifer and Amenadiel teaming up and confronting Michael for his wrongdoings against Charlie. Just when Amenadiel attacks Michael, Maze appears and stands by Michael’s side since he has promised to offer her a soul. In the final moments, just as the three brothers Michael, Lucifer, and Amenadiel gear up for an ultimate showdown, their father “God” appears, saying “That’s enough!”
Season 5’s part two can pick up right from the ending of season 5’s first part. Season 5 part two might also unveil a new relationship dynamic being formed between the father and children. It will be interesting to see how Chloe would react to the new development in Lucifer’s life and what will it mean for their relationship.
Season 6 will pick right where Season 5 left off. Fans will get to see Lucifer and his brothers reprimanded by God. Are you excited for the new seasons? Do share your views with us in the comments box below!
