The show follows Tom Ellis’s ‘Lucifer’, the lord of hell or the underworld, who, out of sheer boredom, moves to Los Angeles from his nether worldly abode, to act as the owner of a nightclub and assists LAPD, Chloe Decker (played by Lauren German) in solving crimes and catching criminals. The Fox series was supposed to end with the third season before it was rescued by Netflix.

Fox explained that their decision to let go of the show was purely ratings based. Last year, the streaming service had both surprised and shocked the show’s fans by announcing a finale season 5. Fortunately, for the fans, this does not stand true as a season 6 has recently been announced by the official twitter account of the show.
What can fans expect from season 6? When will it air?
It was reported a month ago that the show leads Tom Ellis, and executive producers Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson had renewed their contracts for a sixth season sometime last month. The sixth season will pick up the story from wherever the 16th episode of the 5th season leaves it.
The 5th season will be released in two parts, the first of which is scheduled to air from 21st August this year. In the short video posted on Twitter, by the show’s official account, regarding the sixth season, we can see the number “666” in large size with some special effects. The official Twitter account said, “The devil made us do it. #Lucifer will return for a sixth and final season. Like, FINAL final”. The video till now has garnered over 45,000 views with fans expressing their excitement in the comment section.
The triple 6 is often referred to as the devil’s number. With these things in mind, fans are speculating the new season to be as devilish, witty, and riveting as ever. The sixth and final season could air sometime next year, likely during Spring or Summer. However, it is also entirely possible that it may not air till 2022 if there are delays in the filming process due to the current coronavirus situation which has put a halt on the entire entertainment industry.
