At some point, we all have to choose between what the world wants you to be and who you are
Black Widow movie delves into Natasha Romanoff’s red ledger and so do we…
Black Widow is coming to the theatres in November 2020 now that the new Marvel schedule has been pushed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Safe to say, the anticipation cannot be killing us more.
Heads Up! Here are all the details of Natasha’s red ledger in the upcoming Black Widow movie.
- Kevin Feige Tells
- The story so far
- Avengers 2012: Where it all started
We NEED answers to what’s Natasha been up to post Civil War and up until Endgame. Did she ever manage to wipe out the red? What’s Red in her ledger anyway?
Kevin Feige Tells
Marvel President Kevin Feige surely knows how to keep fans engaged even when there’s no hope to see the events sooner. He recently told Total Film about the ‘rich’ back story that Natasha has. He further tells that the studio has approached it in a completely ‘unexpected’ way
She’s been up to a lot all along – in between when we see her in the other movies – some of which will be surprising to people.
We all know that Natasha was a Russian KGB spy, trained in the Red Room. She was saved by Clint Barton aka Hawkeye in Budapest and later recruited by SHEILD. Nick Fury trusted her the most out of the Avengers lot. She was the only spy among the soldiers. But a deadly one at that.
Though she appeared in many non-Avenger movies but we never got a chance to see what she did on her own.
The story so far in the Black Widow trailer
In the teaser trailer of the Black Widow movie Natasha’s voiceover states, “We’ve got unfinished business. We have to go back to where it all started.”
We know after the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Natasha is on a run. The trailer shows her on the train station, multiple passports and introduces Natasha’s Russian family.
“There’s a new world of widows, new enemies, am done running from my past,” says the Super Bowl trailer. The (so-called) final trailer shows that the Red Room and the Widows are under the Taskmaster. We’ve seen a younger General Thunderbolt Ross in all the trailers by far and again while Natasha says, ‘I am done running.’
To understand where all this is going we’d have to do a flashback to 2012 Avengers movie.
Avengers 2012: Where it all started
Remember the confrontation between a locked up Loki and Natasha in Avengers. Loki says to Natasha,
Can you? Can you wipe out that much red? Drakov’s daughter, Sao Paulo, the hospital fire? Barton told me everything. Your ledger is dripping, it’s gushing red.
It’s where it all started we realize for the first time that Natasha has some red in her ledger. But what does that mean? Read between the lines again, ‘Drakov’s daughter, Sao Paulo, the hospital fire?’
Enter General Drakov
For over 11 years we assumed that it was just part of Loki’s rant but now it’s getting clear and clearer. General Drakov is the head of the Red Room. A Marvel Black Widow prelude comics reveal that General Drakov recruited Natasha and made her the best pupil of the Red Room that Natasha now wants to destruct. Drakov’s daughter and Natasha were trained together in the Red Room.
“We have to go back to where it all started so that they can’t do it to anyone anymore,” says Natasha in the final trailer.
Natasha has made some mistakes and it can be assumed that losing a sister or killing her in Sao Paulo hospital fire is one of them. That’s what Clint Barton saved her from.
In a recent interview in the Empire magazine, it was confirmed that actor Ray Winstone is playing General Drakov in the upcoming Black Widow movie.
For redemption, Natasha must go back and once more face General Drakov not only the Taskmaster.
An emotional Natasha anyone?
