Netflix has finally confirmed season 2 of ‘Locke & Key’ but fans are wondering who from the original cast will return. Let’s find out.
‘Locke & Key’ took 12 years to reach our screens, but this journey has proved to be worthwhile, and if Netflix had decided to cancel it after just one season, we would have been very disappointed. Thankfully, that is not the case!

Showrunner Carlton Cuse informed fans that the writing team had already started working on new episodes before the series received an official go-ahead from Netflix. So this bodes well for the future of Joe Hill’s story on screen, and for us fans who have insight into what we can expect from season 2.
Here is everything we know about season 2, which cast members will return and when will season 2 officially drop.
‘Locke & Key’ Season 2: What should we expect?
Show-runners Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill made sure that season 1 ended with plenty of cliff-hangers and unresolved stories. What we’re hoping to see in season 2 is the origin story of the keys. In the comics, we discover that back in 1775, a group of rebel soldiers during the War of Independence comes across the Black Door, a portal to another dimension.
Not only will the second season discuss the origin of the keys, but it will also have more keys and demons in it. The first season had about 12 keys, but the comics have a lot more. There is no doubt that ‘Locke & Key’ will borrow from its source material, which means a lot more keys and demons to follow.
One of the biggest suspense is Ellie’s (Friend of Lockes’ late father) death. One of the original Keeper of the Keys, she helps the Locke kids make sense of what is happening to them. But in an accident, in the last episode, she meets her end. An end which we never saw, so Ellie’s fate is left up in the air.
Who will return to answer these questions?
The cast of ‘Locke & Key’ returns for season 2
The show’s leading trio- young Bode, played by Jackson Robert Scott, middle child Kinsey, portrayed by Emilia Jones, and the eldest sibling Tyler, played by Connor Jessup will be back for season 2.
Darby Stanchfield who stars as their mother, Nina, and her deceased husband Rendell played by Bill Heck will also be resuming their roles. Aaron Ashmore, Locke siblings’ slightly mysterious and forgetful uncle Duncan, is also expected to be back.
The doubt lies with Ellie (Sherri Shaum) and whether she is dead or alive. The actress, when asked about her return, refused to comment, and the suspense about her fate lives on.
So when can we expect a second season?
‘Locke & Key’: Season 2 release date
In Netflix, ‘Locke & Key’ found a safe haven after a tough journey of 12 years. In February 2019, the show went into production, and the entire series was released within a year. Fans won’t have to wait a lot before the second season is released.
Owing to the coronavirus pandemic, the official release date for season 2 hasn’t been announced. But seeing as the work on the second season has already begun, the show could come back as soon as the restrictions on shoots have been lifted.
Until ‘Locke & Key’ returns for season 2, we will be unlocking our brains, trying to figure out what new keys the new season will bring.
