Kevin James spills details on a possible ‘King of Queens’ reboot? Let’s find out the details!
‘King of Queens’ was one of the most popular American sitcoms that aired from September 21, 1998, to May 14, 2007. It managed to grab top ratings for CBS. One of the key reasons for its top rating was that it was the only remaining live-action ’90s sitcom on television at the time of its finale.

The hit sitcom of the 90s
‘King of Queens’ gave viewers some belly-aching laughter which was one of the reasons why even today it is fondly remembered. The show was set up in the working-class suburb of Queens, New York. It followed around the lives of Doug Heffernan (played by Kevin James) who was an amicable international parcel service delivery driver and his wife Carrie Heffernan (played by Leah Remini) who was a hot-tempered secretary.
In the beginning, newly-wedded Dough and Carrie enjoyed their pleasant and untroubled life. But things took a turn when Carrie’s newly widowed father Arthur decided to move into their homes. Arthur caused a stir in Dough and Carrie’s lives. For ten years the CBS sitcom was a hit, especially because of Doug’s bickering dynamics with his wife Carrie, his cousin Danny, and his live-in father-in-law, Arthur Spooner.
Former reunion of Doug and Carrie
In 2017, fans were more than delighted to witness the reunion of Kevin James with his former TV screen wife Leah Remini on another primetime television show ‘Kevin Can Wait’. Their reunion was featured in the two-part season finale once again as a couple. Fans of ‘Kevin Can Wait’ were surprised to learn about how James’ onscreen wife Donna Gable was killed off from the show to be replaced by Leah Remini! James justified the “killing off move” by stating that it was done purely out of storytelling purposes. But many still believe that them starring as husband and wife for nine seasons on ‘King of Queens’ was the real reason as James probably wished to resuscitate their old yet loved chemistry.
In an interview to New York Daily News, Kevin James gushed about his former co-star joining the cast of ‘Kevin Can Wait’. “When she came on, it was just the greatest. Fans loved it, everybody on the crew loved it. We just knew right away. So we thought, how can we get her here full-time to be on the show?’”
Remini further confirmed her joy of working again with James.
“It could’ve been next year, ten years from now. It could’ve been ten years earlier. I would have taken any opportunity to work with Kevin again. I’ve worked with other leading men after Kevin, but there’s something very special that you just can’t kind of explain when something works with somebody”.

In an interview with Access Hollywood’s Sibley Scoles, Kevin James recalled the impact of what ‘King of Queens’ had on his life. “It changed my life immeasurably because it was such a great time for me and so exciting at that time. It was a hit show at that time”. He further acknowledged how the show is doing way better than it did at that time as people nowadays are finding it and watching its re-runs. He further acknowledged that it is the people you work with who make the project great for him, especially people like Leah and Jerry.
The interview grabbed headlines when he was asked if a reunion of ‘The Kings of Queens’ with Leah is on the cards.
“We are talking right now about doing like a table-read thing. It is an odd thing because we have just lost Jerry and he is that show. He was the glue that really made that show. So, we are talking about doing something though maybe for charity and getting together again so that we all can kinda read and just enjoy each other again”.
Jerry Stiller passed away in May 2020. He played the role of the odd father Arthur Spooner on the show. Both James and Remini took to their Instagram accounts to share their remorse.
Even though the reunion would be incomplete without ‘Arthur Spooner’, we are sure fans would be delighted once again to watch Doug and Carrie together. Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
