Produced by Fremantle and Industrial Media’s 19 Entertainment, ‘American Idol’ is a reality TV show where aspiring singers from all across America compete for a record deal with Hollywood Records and a hefty cash prize. The show debuted on Fox Network in 2002 and till 2016 remained one of the most-watched shows in the United States.
The show’s original lineup featured co-hosts Ryan Seacrest and Brian Dunkleman and the panel of judges included Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson, and Simon Cowell. After a two-year hiatus, ABC Network brought back ‘American Idol’ to TV in 2018, with Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan as the judges, Seacrest as the host, and Bobby Bones acting as the in-house mentor.
There was a lot of speculation around first-time expecting Katy Perry’s return to the show in 2021, but the pop-star is a force to reckon with. She has been very vocal about returning to work after giving birth to her baby girl.
Perry told “SiriusXM”, “I’m sure it will be an untraditional way, but look, I’m joining the force of working moms out there. That is a very strong force. And I love what I do and it doesn’t feel like work and it brings me so much joy, so I just want to continue that state of joy”.

‘American Idol’ judge Katy Perry believes in going with the flow
Films and TV shows have just been allowed to resume production in California from June 12, finally, after a three-month halt due to the ongoing pandemic. With strict restrictions still in place, Perry believes it’s best to go with the flow.
“We usually start taping in September or October. I think this whole year is a year of unknown and uncertainty. I think we’ll probably have a plan A, B and C”, Perry told the “Us Weekly”. She continued, “I hope we’re all going to be judging on the show [next year]. That would be fun to stay the same. But I think we kind of just have to go with the flow and be malleable like we were for the end of (this season amid the COVID-19 pandemic). It’s such a team effort, and it’ll continue to be a team effort”.
In an interview with “The New Indian Express”, Perry spoke about the show like a proud mother:
“I believe that our show has come to a place where people are truly trusting it. Legitimate artists, songwriters, and young kids are using it as an additional platform, besides their own hustle on social media. The show is putting out legit artists. People are using it as a launching pad, which is so exciting for us.”
Over the years, ‘American Idol’ has produced several recording sensations like Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Jordin Sparks, David Cook, Kris Allen, and Adam Lambert. Chris Daughtry, the frontman of Billboard-topping American rock band Daughtry, was also one of the finalists of season 5.

Speaking about her pregnancy amidst a pandemic, alongside being a judge on ‘American Idol’, Perry expressed, “This time has brought in some balance. This has helped me bond with my family at a deeper level than I ever had, rather than just a vacation or a holiday. There’s a new foundation that is being laid between families and partners, and we all will never forget this time”.
