What made Jim Parsons leave ‘The Big Bang Theory’?
Jim Parsons’ decision to leave his role as Sheldon Cooper shocked fans of the popular sitcom. It led to CBS announcing the end of ‘The Big Bang Theory‘ after its twelfth season. Chuck Lorre had always maintained that if one member of the cast left, then the show would have to end.
Production designer, John Shaffner revealed to “Metro” that Jim Parsons told Chuck Lorre that he would not want to come back and do the role anymore.
In ‘David Tennant Does A Podcast With…’, Jim Parsons spoke about his decision. He explained that he had a realization to do other things, after a series of unfortunate events in his life. Parsons also conveyed that he never had feelings of not wanting the show to go on without his character. He actually felt the opposite about it. Jim Parsons consecutively won four Emmy Awards for his role as Sheldon Cooper in ‘The Big Bang Theory’.
According to “Entertainment Weekly”,
CBS was keen on continuing the sitcom for two more seasons. But Jim Parsons was not keen on it. Parsons, along with Kaley Cuoco, Johnny Galecki, Kunal Nayyar, and Simon Helberg would have made more than $50 million including profits if he would have agreed. Earlier, CBS Entertainment President Kelly Kahl had shared the news of renewing ‘The Big Bang Theory’ for season 13. Both CBS and Warner Bros wanted to continue for two more years.
Kaley Cuoco did not want to leave
On the Golden Globes red carpet, Kaley Cuoco confessed to “ET”,
“I don’t wanna leave either. Everyone’s saying the same thing. I don’t wanna leave, I don’t wanna leave. I said it. I don’t wanna leave!”
Cuoco spoke about how the show will live on for a long time, thanks to reruns. She also seemed open to the idea of revisiting her character, Penny, in one year. At that time, Cuoco further spoke about how she had not come to terms with the idea that the cast and crew had shot the final episode.
Several popular classic shows such as ‘Gilmore Girls’, ‘Will & Grace’, and ‘Veronica Mars’ have been brought back as reboots. Will we see a ‘The Big Bang Theory’ reboot in the future? At least, Kaley Cuoco seemed open to the idea.
Kaley Cuoco shared her reaction to the news of ‘The Big Bang Theory’ ending after 12 seasons through an Instagram post. She wrote:
“This ride has been a dream come true and as life-changing, as it gets. No matter when it was going to end, my heart would have always been broken in two. Drowning in tears, we promise to bring you the best season yet. To the fans, our crew, families, Chuck Lorre, Warner Brothers, CBS, and everyone who has supported us for so many years, thank you. We are going out with a bang.”
Kaley Cuoco was emotional during the shoot of ‘The Big Bang Theory’
On the ‘Ellen DeGeneres Show’, the cast of ‘The Big Bang Theory’ spoke about the show ending after twelve seasons. In the interview, Jim Parsons and Kaley Cuoco talked about the show’s legacy and how their relationship has strengthened over the years.
Cuoco also recalled filming a scene with Johnny Galecki when, seemingly out of nowhere, the upcoming end emotionally hit her. She told DeGeneres about a scene they were doing before the holiday. They were just blocking and kind of rehearsing the scene. Out of nowhere, Cuoco just started bawling. The crew, all the camera guys, and everyone came out and told her that they were so glad that she cried because they had been waiting to cry.
