Johnny Depp is not returning as Jack Sparrow in Disney’s reboot for Pirates of the Caribbean but a certain Avengers star might be joining the cast.
Pirates of the Caribbean is a billion-dollar franchise so clearly any hopes of reviving it are very much alive among the ones responsible for it reaching this momentous milestone. Not only is Disney coming back with a sixth instalment there are rumours of a major change coming with it.
It seems like the Black Pearl won’t be taking in any more adventures with Jack Sparrow aka Johnny Depp in it. Depp is supposedly not a part of the reboot and fans are not exactly thrilled with this decision.

Depp Is THE Pirate Of The Caribbean
With rumours swirling of a sixth instalment for the Pirates of The Caribbean, the biggest question that the fans wanted an answer to was, is Depp returning to play the role of Jack Sparrow?
Arguably one of his most iconic characters till date, Depp has donned on the pirate hat five times in the past fifteen years earning a whopping 4 Billion dollar revenue. Undoubtedly, Depp brought a charisma and uniqueness to the role that earned him the status of a ‘Superstar’.
Pirates of the Caribbean is essentially a popcorn-movie with little credibility to make it to the Oscars despite which Depp secured himself a nomination for Best Actor. Before Depp made it to the dark side of superstar fame and success, he was considered an independent actor mostly working with the likes of Tim Burton. (who can forget the iconic Edward Scissorhands)

With everything so merry and well, why is Depp not being considered for the role?
Depp Not Out Of The Water
While the movie is back in business Depp is not. The exclusion of Depp from the sixth instalment which is meant for a cinematic release is due to the actor’s varying personal reasons. Sure, we mean personal but how much of your life is really personal if you’re an actor like Johnny Depp.
Battling from a drinking problem and a very messy and public divorce settlement involving allegation of Domestic Violence against his ex-wife Amber Heard, Depp has found himself in an array of problems he isn’t getting out of anytime soon.
And the next movie isn’t a small-budget project that the makers aren’t exactly passionate about. The sixth Instalment of The Pirates of the Caribbean is rumoured to have a 100 Million Dollar Budget and will have a theatre-release unlike the rumours of a Disney Plus release. Having a flight-risk like Depp (not that it would be his fault entirely) is not a smart business movie despite the actor’s popularity and they know it.
The Future of the Caribbean’s
The film is schedules to release somewhere in mid to late 2021 and Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom will in all probability seen reprising their roles.
But Pirates of the Caribbean will be coming with a very big twist indeed. Captain Jack Sparrow will be- wait for it- a she!
The Studio is looking for a female to lead the film and on top of their list is the Avengers Star Karen Gillan who has starred in Guardians of the Galaxy and Jumanji. This twist can certainly go either way for the creators.
On one hand, you have Karen Gillan filling in the shoes of Depp who has played the role of Captain Jack Sparrow role with effortless flawlessness on the other hand you have a whole new audience to cater to. But Karen Gillan is a wonderful actress and being the studio’s first choice does leave us excited and wondering what to expect from her performance.
It is quite the gamble to continue the franchise without Depp who brought in a whopping 4 Billion Dollars through five movies and we can only sit back and see how it plays out. Maybe we do end up seeing him in a supporting role after all, though nothing is confirmed.
