This is how Kevin Feige ensures MCU’s success
Marvel Cinematic Universe has to be one of the most successful film franchises in today’s film industry. In fact, they are so successful that even the pandemic could not stop them from creating one of the highest-selling movies. And now Kevin Feige’s key to Marvel’s success has been revealed by ‘Avengers: Endgame’ director Joe Russo.
In a conversation with “Deadline”, Joe revealed, “Well, Marvel’s secret sauce is that Kevin likes the films to be entertaining, right”?
He went on to say that by entertainment, he meant the use of humour and that when it comes to Kevin, he is all about film testing. So, he attends the test screening solely to hear the audience’s reaction.
Russo went on to say,
“So the audience’s laughing, you can hear their response. You can understand, ‘Okay, every 2 minutes [they] are getting some enjoyment out of the movie’”.
Russo then concluded by saying that test screening is how Kevin predicts how the movie will perform in the theatres. He went on to say that humour is important to Kevin because even when there is a very emotional or serious scene taking place, fans always remember the presence of subtle humour in that scene.
It looks like now everyone knows the reason behind MCU’s success, and we can surely appreciate the efforts that Kevin Feige puts to make sure that the audience has a memorable time watching the MCU movies.
This is where Kevin Feige wants to focus on Phase 4
Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, is currently working on the plot of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in phase 4.
During a conversation with the “VFX Notes podcast”, ‘Eternals’ VFX Production Supervisor Stephane Ceretti revealed Feige’s major concern is the MCU’s ever-expanding story. According to him, Kevin can no longer be as hands-on with particular projects and Marvel Studios’ day-to-day operations as he previously was.
Explaining Stephane’s statement, there are many more people now, but the way things are going, it’s both fun and wild, and it’s quite exciting because everyone is a part of the process. He went on to say that things are different now that the studio is bigger, and they may have less access to the people they used to have all the time. [Alonso, for example, is always present and attends all meetings and readings].
When it comes to Feige, they do not see him much around lately because he is now involved in developing the storyline. However, he used to go to every VFX reading with them, which was fantastic because he was so busy with the story and everything.
Given his extensive list of responsibilities and constant presence on press tours and premieres, it is only natural that Feige would become less involved in various operations.
