James Gunn says “No” to Thanos – Why?
In a recent Instagram Live Q&A session, a fan asked Gunn if he’d like to see Thanos coming back from the dead in MCU, to which he replied “No. There’s plenty of other stories to tell.” What Gunn meant was clear.
According to him, Thanos remained the main antagonist in MCU throughout the Infinity Saga, which consisted of 22 movies. Even though he only got to play the main part in Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame, but as per Gunn, his story is now over.
Also, a great many sacrifices were made to save the world from Thanos. The defeat of Thanos did cost MCU the life of Iron Man, Black Widow, Loki, Vision, and many other characters, so the return of Thanos will mean all the sacrifices going into the trash can. That is probably why James Gunn doesn’t want Thanos to return in MCU.

This is not the first time when James Gunn has gone against the wish of fans. Previously, when the fans were pleading to see Yondu back in Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, Gunn denied the request without any consideration.
Yondu, played by Michael Rooker, sacrificed his life in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 to save Peter Quill aka Starlord. The character once hated by the fans became their favourite after a few revelations.
However, when asked about his return from the dead, James Gunn clearly denied the possibility claiming that it would reduce the movie-watching experience for the fans, as the stakes won’t be real anymore. The same can be the reason behind James Gunn not wanting to see Thanos returning in MCU.
