Why does Mel want to break things off with Jack?
In Season 1 of ‘Virgin River’, we saw Melinda “Mel” Monroe’s budding romance with Jack Sheridan getting interrupted when she gets to learn that his ex-girlfriend Charmine is pregnant with his child. After hearing this news Mel is more than devastated because she was just beginning to accept Jack in her life. A place that earlier was occupied by her dead husband, whose absence has been hard for her to accept.
Another reason for her shock and sadness was that Mel had a stillbirth, due to which she cannot have a child of her own. Keeping all things in mind, at the end of Netflix‘s Virgin River season 1 Mel decides to leave the town and go back to Los Angeles.
Will Jack and Melbe back together in season 2?
Things had just started to look good for Jack and Mel. They even shared an intimate moment in episode nine of the ‘Virgin River’. But with Jack’s big baby revelation, their future on the show is a big question. At the end of season 1 of ‘Virgin River’, we saw that Mel was ready to leave town. She even called her sister Joey and informed her about her decision. However, after the release of the trailer, it seems that Mel decided to give the town another chance.
In the trailer released by Netflix, we see Mel back in ‘Virgin River’ and working in Doc’s clinic. We also see plenty of hints involving Jack and Mel’s future. The trailer opens with Mel walking back into Doc’s office only to be confronted with Jack, and says: “Hi Jack.” However, Jack is upset to see her and responds, “I think I’m gonna need a little more than ‘Hi Jack’”.
Mel tries to look for an answer to the ongoing love catastrophe that involves her, Charmaine and Jack.
“It cannot be overlooked that Charmaine, Jack, and I all have to deal with an uncomfortable situation as I finish my year”, says Mel. But as Doc wisely points out to her, “If you let something simmer too long, it will eventually boil over”.
Mel tells Jack how Charmaine wants to be with him. She’s going to be the mother of his child. To which Jack replies, “But, here is the problem, I am not in love with her (Charmaine)”. As Hope rightly points out, it’s a damn shame, they aren’t together. It truly is Hope.
Who will join the cast of ‘Virgin River’?
Apart from the main actors, Alexandra Breckenridge, Martin Henderson, Tim Matheson, and Lauren Hammersley, we will see Annette O’Toole who plays the town’s mayor Hope McCrea, and Colin Lawrence as John “Preacher” Middleton would make a return on season 2. As confirmed by “Deadline”, Grayson Gurnsey who plays Ricky, who works at Jack’s bar, will also return.
Another character on the show, Ben Hollingsworth, who plays an untrustworthy old Marine buddy of Jack’s, will also have an expanded role in season 2. In season 2, we will also see Mel’s sister-in-law, Staci (Melinda Dahl), visit ‘Virgin River’ as well. Although we aren’t sure about the reason behind her visit, it can be speculated to be something to do with Mel’s dead husband.
Given Mel’s muddled situation, she will have to make some big decisions in the coming episodes. Will she accept Jack and his baby or will she leave him and move back to the city? Hopefully, a lot of our unanswered questions and dilemmas will be answered in season 2 of ‘Virgin River’ which is releasing on 27th November on Netflix.
