While we know the actor behind the masked Mandalorian aka Din Djarin is male, some fans have been wondering about the bounty hunter’s gender. Keep reading to learn all about it!
What is ‘The Mandalorian’ about?
The Disney+ series stars ‘Game Of Thrones’ and ‘Narcos’ actor Pedro Pascal in its titular role as the Mandalorian. A bounty hunter hailing from the planet of Mandalore, he is a lone gunfighter nicknamed Mando and wears the traditional armour of his homeland.
The Mandalorian operates in the chaotic outer reaches of the galaxy, after the fall of the empire, far away from the authority of the New Republic. The series also stars actor Gina Carano as tough-as-nails mercenary Cara Dune, Carl Weathers as Greef Carga, leader of the bounty hunters guild. Giancarlo Esposito portrays former Imperial governor Moff Gideon, and filmmaker Taika Waititi voices IG-11, an assassin droid.
It is set before the emergence of the new order, and director Jon Favreau has teased that the live-action series will explore the origins of the First Order. Its presence hasn’t been established yet, but fans can expect to see it soon!
Is the Mandalorian male or female?
It is a fact that actor Pedro Pascal portrays the role of the masked Mandalorian so it’s obvious the character is male. Din Djarin aka Mando is a human Mandalorian, who works as a bounty hunter in the New Republic era. He wears a distinctive armour, ranging from his homeland, and a beskar helmet, which conceals his face.
Djarin was well-equipped and trained to become a Mandalorian warrior and eventually became battle-hardened. He is a man of few words, and an intimidating hunter in a dangerous galaxy, where he works in secret. Mando joins The Tribe, an active Mandalorian organisation, during the years following the fall of the empire.
Mando meets ‘The Child’, a force-sensitive child ranging from the same alien species as Jedi Grand Master Yoda. Fans dubbed him “Baby Yoda”, and the character has been credited with the show’s success.
The child aka Baby Yoda is actually a male
The force-sensitive Baby Yoda has become a fan-favourite ever since viewers got a glimpse at him! We know very little about him though, excluding the fact that he belongs to an alien species familiar with Star Wars fans.
The child is referred to as “him” by Doctor Pershing in the third episode, which means Baby Yoda is most certainly a male. He is considered an infant even though he is 50 years old because his species age very slowly.
That’s all we know about him yet, his past is unknown to viewers since they’re unaware of who he was before meeting the Mandalorian. His family, his origins, and his existence during the original Star Wars trilogy is a mystery so far. A Reddit page dedicated to Baby Yoda is calling him “yiddle”, a nod to Yoda and Yaddle, a male and female of the same species who famously appeared in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. They believe Baby Yoda to be the child of Yoda and Yaddle. We’ll find the truth soon enough!
