Highlights:
- ‘Seinfeld’– The show about nothing
- ‘Seinfeld’– A cultural phenomenon
- The finale that disappointed a nation
- Is ‘Seinfeld’ season 10 finally happening?
This observational comedy had quite a run throughout its nine seasons, becoming one of the most popular and influential shows on American television in the 90s. The series was intelligent and unsentimental, and heavily relied on its mordant sense of humour and petty details. Its unique take on mundane life made it a work of pure genius and gave people a comedy that was nothing like anything they had seen before.
However, the only thing that went wrong with this iconic series was its finale, probably its only episode that did not go down well with the audiences. Fans were not happy with the way the makers of the show decided to conclude it and were left with a feeling that was more bitter than sweet. Fans have been awaiting a revival of the series for years so that it would get the finale it deserved. So, is a ‘Seinfeld’ season 10 finally happening? Read on to find out!
‘Seinfeld’: A show that became a phenomenon
The sitcom was set in the upper-west side of Manhattan and chronicled the lives of four upper-middle class friends, Jerry, Elaine, George, and Kramer all in their early 30s. It derived its humour from the minutiae of daily life and frivolous arguments between its characters. The show also had the previously unexplored format of opening and ending the show with jokes from a stand-up.

The ground-breaking comedy became a cultural phenomenon as its characters were real and unfiltered, snubbing American audience’s obsession with likeable characters disdainfully. It gave the audiences some of the most legendary catchphrases that are still loved and remembered by all– “KNOW WHAT I MEAN?” From the clothes to hairstyles to opinionated characters and their dialogues, the show was a sensation.
The finale that disappointed a nation
Despite its invincible reign, the show is often remembered today as one with a highly disappointing finale that was watched by around a whopping 76 million people. The fact that all 4 of the main characters ultimately ended up in prison bewildered fans who couldn’t believe that this was how their favourite characters ended up! It was a poorly written finale that, for obvious reasons, didn’t sit well with the audiences.
Over the years, even the cast members of ‘Seinfeld’ have shown their displeasure with the last episode of the show. The show’s star Jerry Seinfeld, despite having stood by the finale in 2014 and saying that he was “happy” with it, ultimately in a 2017 interview said, “I sometimes think we really shouldn’t have even done it. There was a lot of pressure on us at that time to do one big last show, but big is always bad in comedy.”Jason Alexander too, who played George Costanza on the show, said that as per him the finale was “a good episode, but not a great episode” in an interview.
Larry David had a mini ‘Seinfeld’ reunion on the 7th season of his 2000 show, ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ in an attempt to give the audiences some closure, but the fans are still looking forward to a full-fledged reboot that does justice to the legendary series.

So, is a reboot in the works? – Everything we know
With more and more shows getting their reboots, will Seinfeld finally have shot at a season 10? Well, it is unclear as of now.
In 2018, Jerry Seinfeld had in an interview on the Ellen Degeneres Show gone on record to say, – “It’s possible”, when asked about ‘Seinfeld’ possibly returning to television. However, in 2019, Jerry hinted that a reboot was doubtful saying, “I cannot imagine that. I always explain to people the characters are created by the writing staff, and without the writing staff, you don’t have that person.”
Nevertheless, actor, Jason Alexander was quoted in an interview with Entertainment Tonight as saying – “Would I consider it? Yeah, but I’m not the lynchpin. You’re talking to the wrong guy! It doesn’t just happen because I say it happens.”, indicating that he is open to being a part of the show again.
Officially, there is no news of a reboot yet, but, the most of the cast of the show seems to be more than willing to be back with the show. Also, considering how more and more shows are getting revived I think it is only plausible that the same happens with the brilliant, ‘Seinfeld’.
