Avengers #31 revels Iron Man’s father
If you are planning to pick the latest copy of Iron Man comics, beware of the spoilers ahead! But before we go ahead, here is a glimpse at Tony Stark’s labyrinthine family history. In 2013’s Iron Man #17, Tony Stark discovered that he is adopted. His brother, Arno is the biological child of Howard and Maria Stark. But the Stark couple adopted Tony to cover Arno’s health deterioration as an infant.
After this revelation, it took 3 more years before Tony got anywhere near discovering his biological parents. It was 2016’s International Iron Man #5 that let the cat out of the bag and revealed Tony Stark’s birth mother’s name. It was British radio DJ Amanda Armstrong.
Subsequently, the issue that followed claimed that Iron Man’s birth father was a SHIELD agent whose code-name was Jude. But sadly, Jude was revealed to be a Hydra mole and later, Tony Stark’s biological mother, Amanda, had to kill Jude in self-defense. Now a single mother, Amanda gave her baby, Tony, for adoption.
Who is Iron Man’s biological father?
In the latest edition of Avengers #31, Tony Stark flashbacks to his childhood and stumbles across Howard Stark in multiverse. He remembers overseeing some Satanic-style rituals. Later, Howard reveals that he is none other than demon lord Mephisto who has come to take Tony Stark’s soul. Mephisto indirectly emphasises that he is Tony’s actual father and Howard Stark had sold his son’s soul long ago.
Iron Man denies his apparent biological father, Mephisto’s offer to become ‘Devil in Iron’. Instead he shatters the Time Stone that Mephisto has. This pulls him forward in time.
Currently, it is difficult to say whether Mephisto is actually Iron Man’s father or if he only considers Tony to be his son as his adoptive father, Howard, sold his soul. As previously established in Marvel Comics, Amanda and Jude could still be Tony Stark’s parents. But the revelation that Howard Stark is still alive and plotting against Iron Man with Mephisto is a revelation worthy of an MCU movie.
Is Robert Downey Jr coming back to MCU
With such a huge trust in the Iron Man’s comics, Marvel could be strategically plotting to bring back Iron Man actor, Robert Downey Jr, back to the MCU screen. Given the fact that Avengers: Endgame was a massive box office success for Marvel Studios and the movie owes its fandom to Robert Downey Jr, it would not be shocking if the actor comes back as Iron Man. Additionally, with everything that is going in the Marvel Comic Universe, there could not be a better plot and reason to bring back Iron Man and his father.
What do you think? Was Iron Man’s father’s revelation timed to bring Robert Downey Jr back to the MCU? Also, do you think Mephisto is Tony Stark’s biological father or is it Jude? Share your views in the comments.
