There’s never been a dull moment in the modernised ‘Dynasty’ reboot, but with several actors exiting the series, fans are worried about the new season.
‘Dynasty’ is a primetime soap opera, a modern-day reboot based on the 1980s series of the same name. The original series was thriving in its days but fans have come to love the reboot! The series still focuses on the exceedingly wealthy families of the Carringtons and the Colbys.

- Nathalie Kelley didn’t even read the script before signing on
- She didn’t originally quit the show, it was a creative decision
Some of these family members are rather villainous, so fans have wondered how they’re portrayed to be a family. The show follows their lives as they feud for control over their children and their fortune. The ‘Dynasty’ reboot depicts an amusing reality of what happens behind the closed doors of the wealthy family, how they defend their throne against their rivals, and even their own family members!
The characters live in mansions, own billion-dollar corporations, private jets and that’s just touching the surface. But that’s what makes the show so great. It’s diverting to watch and, in a way, helps you escape from reality! The only trouble fans are facing is the news of actors exiting the reboot every now and then. A look at the important characters that left the ‘Dynasty’ reboot
In the past, many characters central to the story have been recast or written off and fans are worried about ‘Dynasty’ Season 4. Actor Nicollete Sheridan, who plays Alexis Carrington, shockingly quit the show after the second season, in a very odd fashion. She met with a tragic accident that involved her face being burned in a fire. Her character was recast and Elaine Hendrix took on the role after Alexis received two face reconstructive surgeries.
James MacKay, another original cast member who played Steven, Blake’s second son, was written off after season one. The actor was asked to return for several episodes that featured ridiculous plot twists, but he wasn’t a series regular. Mackay later revealed he didn’t have a choice, so we’re assuming it was the result of a creative overhaul.
There’s also Nathalie Kelley, who played the pivotal role of Blake Carrington’s wife Cristal. She was unexpectedly murdered at the end of season one, and never returned to the series in any capacity. Her character was then recast with Ana Brenda Contreras and introduced as “the real Cristal Flores“, explaining that the previous one was impersonating her.
She was an important part of the show and her exit was exceedingly contradictory to the storyline. The showrunners’ decision behind killing Nathalie’s character was unknown for a long time, but the actress finally shed light on it.
Nathalie didn’t even read the script before signing on
In a recent interview, the actor discussed her departure from the ‘Dynasty’ reboot, giving fans some much-needed closure. She also explained that she wasn’t prepared to be on a primetime soap opera.
“CW offered me the role from seeing my work on Vampire Diaries. I signed on before I ever read the script. There was a basic outline. I think I wasn’t up to the challenge of a nighttime soap. I wasn’t prepared for that genre”, she said in an interview with “TVInsider”.
“It wasn’t something I had experience in. I didn’t know too many actresses who can hold a candle to the wonderful c, who absolutely nails that tone and that genre”, she added.
She didn’t originally quit the show; it was a creative decision!
The ‘Dynasty’ reboot crew is infamous for making abrupt creative decisions that lead to the deaths of the characters. Nathalie’s character was murdered, accused of impersonation, and was then recast with another actor, which really confused fans.
In the same interview, she explained the reason behind her not returning in season 2. “That’s obviously a hard phone call to get as an actor. It took me by surprise. It sends (sent) me into a lot of soul-searching and a realization that I could have dug deeper. I wasn’t going to let an opportunity like that come and pass again. So, I really dug deep and got this role”, she said, referring to her role on ABC’s romantic-comedy ‘The Beauty and The Baker’.
Nicolette Sheridan is said to have quit the show for personal reasons, while others have been decisions made by the creative team. With a new season on the way, fans are worried about other actors departing which could heavily impact the story. The ‘Dynasty’ reboot was renewed earlier this year, but there haven’t been many updates since. Which actor would you love to see a return in the ‘Dynasty’ reboot? Let us know in the comments!
