What losses does Covid’19 have in store for Disney?
The live-action movie Mulan that was earlier set to be released on the 27th of March, 2020, has now been predictably, postponed due to Coronavirus (COVID-19).
Disney’s theme park in the United States will also see the closures starting from March 14. Disney was sadly forced to abort the plan of Mulan’s launch because of the shutters that have made their way on to the doors of all major cinema houses as well as malls, around the globe.
A huge Disney production film like Mulan is bound to have a huge budget which is believed to have been close to a quarter-billion dollars which include about $200 million segregated to be invested into Printing and Advertising only!
Following everyone’s favourite Disney princess Mulan, there are certain delays that will be faced by ‘The New Mutants’ and ‘The Antlers’ as well.
after the positive testing of Tom Hanks and his beloved wife, Hollywood too is burning up and reacting vividly to the virus and the scare has been brought to a new height.
Disney producers have had to make a public statement about the same,
“As you know this has been a rapidly evolving situation and I wanted to make you aware that we are postponing the releases of Mulan, The New Mutants, and the Antlers out of an abundance of caution.”
Is China losing out on some major Disney fun?
Last month, Disney had to put a stone on their golden heart and postpone Mulan’s distribution in China, which to be precise is the world’s second-largest movie marketplace.
The country that is proven to have the highest percentage of Mulan fans has been forced to shut down about 70000 movie halls and the rest of the country is to remain on forced lockdown due to the outbreak however unlike these, the range of cinemas in Honk Kong is still open wide with a packed schedule to release about 10 upcoming movies, which is what makes the fact that they aren’t getting their taste of Mulan, all the weirder. Upon questioning about the same, Disney Honk Kong remains speechless and lacks response.
What is the real reason behind this fall?
The situation, however, gained more clarity when Marvel actress, Brie Larson tweeted, “I cannot wait to see this movie. Every trailer has made me burst into tears.”.
While contrary to expectations, the most liked replies under the same tweet read, “You know what makes Hong Kongers burst into tears every night? #HKPoliceBrutality, a #HumanRightsViolations that #Mulan lead actress #LiuYifei openly supports.”
The Honk Kong riots have been one of the craziest sights of police brutality and injustice that has been going on for ages, this crazy scenario has caused the citizens of the nation to take to roads, burn police buses and vans with Molotov cocktails as well as openly, stand up for their well-deserved rights.
Twitterati seems to claim that Liu Yifei has managed to ruin the box office with her extremely weird stand to disrespect the basic human rights of the citizens of Honk Kong and openly supporting the Police brutality faced by the citizens in Honk Kong, which is backed by China.
Another such comment claims that Disney is the one that should be crying because of how badly this movie that they have invested in, is going to sink!
#BoycottMulan is trending all through the twitter-verse and with the clear rage in the hearts of the Twitterati, it seems to be clear that the future of Mulan definitely isn’t going to be bright of well-lit!
