One of the most romantic shows on Netflix, ‘Virgin River’ tugged at the heartstrings of fans who were desperate for some old-school romance. The TV adaptation from a series of novels by Robin Carr, ‘Virgin River’ became the answer for a dearth of romance shows online with its great chemistry and a small-town setting which only added the cherry on top.

So, to no one’s surprise, the first season went on to become a hit and was soon followed by an announcement about the show’s renewal for a second season.
But, turns out season 2 is nowhere near ready for a release and won’t be ready anytime soon either.
What exactly is the reason behind the delay?

The news that the show was returning for a second season came before the coronavirus pandemic took over the world and the film and TV industry halted their productions indefinitely for the foreseeable future.
Season 2 of the show is still in the production stage and no official statement has been announced by the makers of the show about the impending release. The show which was set for a 2020 release had to stop the filming midway and fans can expect a delay in the dates.
The show can be pushed as far as the fall of 2021 for its release as the majority of the shooting takes place in Canada and the border restrictions between the two countries are still to ease up. And, with the coronavirus situation only getting worse in the US, the idea of filming on a set seems completely absurd.
But the show will return eventually. So, who will return with it?
The what and who of ‘Virgin River’ Season 2
Even though the ending saw Melinda Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge) leaving the town of ‘Virgin River’, fans can expect her to make a comeback in season 2. Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson) will also be reprising his role as the local restaurant-owner who previously worked in the US Marine.

And along with the lead stars of the show, season 2 of ‘Virgin River’ will also see the return of other important characters played by Jenny Cooper, Colin Lawrence, Lauren Hammersley, Tim Matheson, and Anette O’Toole.
But, that is not all, the new season will also bring a lot of new faces to the show. Joining the cast will be Carmel Amit, Steve Bacic, Lane Edwards, Keith MacKechnie, and Thomas Nicholson.

Season 1 of the show ended on a very dramatic note and if you’ve been following the plot till now, it really won’t come as a surprise to you.
Mel and Jack are lovebirds but, by the end of the show, they face trouble when Jack’s ex, Charmaine, declares that she is pregnant with his baby. This news, coupled with Mel’s insecurities about her own infertility, impacts their relationship and Mel ends up leaving the quaint little town in the finale.
Season 2 of the show will likely focus on what becomes of Mel’s and Jack’s relationship because we really can’t leave the ending to our imagination, now, can we?
