Marvel Phase 4 is all set to kick off in April 2020 with Black Widow. The first MCU movie in the upcoming phase has high hopes of fans. But that is not all that it has. Black Widow has a lot of fans’ theories and speculations that are only escalating fans’ eagerness.
An Avenger will crossover in the Marvel stand-alone movie, Black Widow. The movie is still more than a month away from its release date on 24 April 2020. But speculations and theories have been in the air ever since the teaser trailer of Black Widow came out. Here is one theory that will make you believe that an Avenger might actually crossover in Black Widow.
- Budapest, Natasha, and an Avenger
- This Avenger will be an antagonist
- The taskmaster’s hidden identity has an agenda
Black Widow movie will capture the events between ‘Captain America: Civil War’ and ‘Avengers: Infinity War’. If you have seen the trailer, Natasha is no longer in her all-black Black Widow attire. Moreover, she will be in Budapest facing her past. As she explains in the trailer, “We have unfinished business. We have to go back to where it all started.”
While we do not see any Avengers in the trailer (apart from the flashbacks), MCU might be gearing up for a massive surprise for fans. There might be an Avenger crossover in the Black Widow movie. ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ revealed that Black Widow and Hawkeye were once in Budapest completing a mission.
Natasha (Avengers’ Black Widow) quotes in Infinity War, “Just like Budapest all over again.” To which Hawkeye replies, “You and I remember Budapest very differently.” Watch the scene here—
Now that the Black Widow movie is exploring Budapest, the out-of-place conversation between Black Widow and Hawkeye seems more relevant than ever.
Meet Hawkeye, the Avenger in Black Widow
The speculation of an Avenger crossover in Black Widow becomes more intriguing after one notices the Taskmaster in the teaser trailer of the movie. Take a glimpse at Taskmaster and Hawkeye together—
Their striking similarity moves one to believe that this Taskmaster is, in fact, Hawkeye. The next trailer of Black Widow sees the Taskmaster in another attire altogether—
So, could it be possible that MCU deviates from the comic storyline and portrays Hawkeye as Taskmaster? Yes, it could be. MCU has deviated from the comic storyline before, and there is no reason Marvel Studios would not change the story now. But the problem with this scenario is that it does fit well with the timeline of the story.
So how could the Avenger, Hawkeye, crossover in Black Widow movie? The possible reasoning could be that Hawkeye was either the Taskmaster himself or has faced him. This former fits in well with the fact that Black Widow and Hawkeye once had bad blood between them. So, this is what the storyline might look like—
Black Widow Storyline with Avenger crossover
Black Widow Natasha fights Taskmaster Hawkeye in the past. But now that Hawkeye is with the Avengers, a new Taskmaster has taken his place. So, Natasha reunites with her family to fight this character.
In case Hawkeye was not the Taskmaster even in the past, then he definitely faced him. This is because the Taskmaster has the ability to pick up the fighting skill of his opponent. So the look in which he imitates Hawkeye’s fighting style is a clear indication that either he is Hawkeye or he faced him and picked up his fighting style. Either way, there are high chances of the Avenger’s crossover in Black Widow.
The Taskmaster’s hidden identity has an agenda
Marvel hasn’t yet released the name of the actor who will be playing the Taskmaster. The only actor in an unknown role among Black Widow cast is Ray Winstone. But it is quite impossible to imagine the 63-year-old actor in the Taskmaster’s suit. So, ruling him out, we are left with no contenders for the main villain’s role in Black Widow. This is a commendable and strategic move on Marvel Studios’ part. But it is also a give away that a well-known name is coming to the movie. This increases the chances of an Avenger crossover in the Black Widow movie.
