COVID-19 has wreaked havoc across the world and several industries. As a result, not just political events, but sports competitions and film releases have also been delayed.
While some of the biggest films have been delayed, Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and Suicide Squad 2 might not be as affected. According to filmmaker James Gunn, they might be able to stick to the schedule.
How do these films remain unaffected by the novel coronavirus?
James Gunn has revealed that both films are unlikely to be affected by COVID-19. Gunn announced, through his official Twitter account, that there was no reason to shift the release date for Suicide Squad 2. In the same tweet, he revealed that it is because they were ‘on or ahead’ of the schedule.
With that, he added that they were ‘extremely fortunate’ to have completed the shooting, and the rest can be managed, thanks to a post-production team and a studio with ‘foresight’ that will take on the editing of the film from their respective homes.
Gunn also went on to share that he was working on the cut at the moment and though editing has been ‘smooth’, other factors like the release of posters and trailers have been ‘slow’.
When a fan on Twitter asked if that would also be the case with Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Gunn insisted that the plans were the same as it was before the coronavirus outbreak. He added that right now the plans with Vol 3 were also exactly the same as they were before this global pandemic hit the industry.
Has filming begun yet?
No, it hasn’t. If you consider the constant back and forth over the film’s director, it is quite understandable. According to media reports, Guardians of the Galaxy 3 was to begin filming in summer of 2020. Interestingly, fans can anticipate that this could be pushed back if there any delays on DC’s The Suicide Squad, which is also being helmed by James Gunn.
Plot of Guardians of the Galaxy 3:
It seems that the makers are cautiously keeping all details under wraps, but Gunn previously teased that it will start some kind of seismic shift in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In a Facebook post, Gunn revealed that the film “will conclude the story of this iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and help catapult both old and new Marvel characters into the next ten years and beyond. I will be working side-by-side with Kevin Feige and the gang to help design where these stories go and make sure the future of the Marvel Cosmic Universe is as special, and authentic, and magical as what we have created so far”.
Meanwhile, netizens are discussing how a newly released deleted scene from Avengers: Infinity War could provide a clue about the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy film.
The clip shows the Guardians receiving a string of important coded messages –but missing them. And both Star-Lord and Drax are arguing over some music before Mantis interrupts, pointing the flashing light.
Does this make it the last film in the trilogy?
Yes, the upcoming release will complete the trilogy. Another fan on twitter told director James Gunn, “please never stop making Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Keep it going as long as possible, please! I love these characters”.
To which, director Gunn replied by writing, “Thanks–but Vol. 3 will end the trilogy”.
Cast of the film: who can we expect to see in the latest?
As far as our guess goes, probably everyone from Guardians 2, except Dave Bautista.
We don’t know anything for sure as of yet, but we can guess that the main players survive the next couple of Avengers films, thanks to the same revelatory post that Gunn wrote on Facebook. He said
“So, yes, I’m returning to write and direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. In the end, my love for Rocket, Groot, Gamora, Star-Lord, Yondu, Mantis, Drax, and Nebula— and some of the other forthcoming heroes— goes deeper than you guys can possibly imagine, and I feel they have more adventures to go on and things to learn about themselves, and the wonderful and sometimes terrifying universe we all inhabit. And, like in both Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, we will work on creating the story that goes beyond what you expect”.
Release Date of both films:
Suicide Squad 2 has been confirmed for release on August 6, 2021. The release of Guardians of the Galaxy 3 highly depends on how the coronavirus pandemic shakes the public health systems around the world. Fans can, however, expect the film to open in the theatres sometime in 2022. Note that no official release date has been announced by the makers yet.
