Amid all the success, there are two things Marvel is dying to bring in MCU but couldn’t do so till now.
First is the character, Namor – the Submariner, and second, actor Jason Statham. Actually three, third is Jason Statham as Namor in MCU.
Marvel has been eyeing on getting Jason Statham on-board to introduce Namor in MCU with a perfect face. However, things didn’t work out until now. Marvel could neither manage to get Namor in MCU and nor it could make Jason agree to hop-in to Marvel Cinematic Universe. Kevin Feige has always had magic hands in bringing the A-list actors into MCU.
- Is Jason Statham finally going to star as Namor in MCU?
- Has Kevin approached Jason Statham again for Namor?
- When will we get to see Jason Statham as Namor in MCU?
If Feige wants an actor, he gets him, either by some good thoughts written on a pay-check or by luring them into the spell of the grandness of MCU and superpowers of the character. We know what’s the reason behind Marvel not being able to introduce Namor in MCU till now, but why they couldn’t get Jason Statham till now remains a question to be asked to the actor.
However, looks like Feige is working his magic again. New reports suggest that Jason Statham might finally come as Namor in MCU.
Is Jason Statham finally going to star as Namor in MCU?
It’s not new news that Marvel is trying to get Jason Statham to star as Namor in its cinematic universe. Marvel had tried it before and failed. In 2008, before Iron Man came, Marvel was planning to release Namor – A Sub Mariner movie by 2010, and they had approached Jason Statham for it.
Back then, when asked about it, Jason Statham admitted of meeting Kevin Feige regarding the same, and when asked if he’ll be taking the role, Statham seemed to be skeptical about it.
Jason Statham said in an interview around 2008, “I took a meeting for Sub-Mariner. I don’t know if I’d look right running around in a tight speedo with wings on my ankles but there are so many cool fucking characters.”
We are not sure if Statham then ever tried a tight speedo in front of a mirror, but what we know is the project didn’t happen due to some rights issues of the character. However, the issues have been solved now, and Marvel is back again on its idea of introducing Namor in MCU, and again with the same face of Jason Statham.
Has Marvel and Kevin approached Jason Statham again for Namor in MCU?
If you know Feige, you know he doesn’t give up. Yes, Jason Statham has been approached again by Marvel, however, it’s not clear if he was approached for Namor or some other role in MCU. A little while ago, Kevin Feige admitted that he approached Statham for a role in MCU, however, things didn’t work out. Feige didn’t reveal which role, but he did quote what Statham said.
Feige stated, “I was in another meeting a few days later, and my cellphone rang. I didn’t recognise the number, but I answered it. And it was Jason Statham. He was saying, ‘Sorry it didn’t work out, maybe next time’. He couldn’t have been nicer!”
It was later revealed that Statham was working on “Hobbs and Shaw” at the time, and probably scheduling was the issue of the denial.
When will we get to see Jason Statham as Namor in MCU?
Jason Statham quoting “maybe next time” to Kavin Feige might mean him being interested in playing Namor, but until we hear some update about Namor’s introduction in MCU, it will be useless to speculate who’ll play the role. Yes, there are rumours that Namor might appear as a villain in Black Panther 2, however, nothing is halfway confirmed as of now.
So, “Is Jason Statham going to appear as Namor in MCU?” is a question that needs to follow the answer of “Is Namor going to appear in MCU anytime soon?”.
