An important character from King’s world is Bill Skarsgard who plays the character of the Kid. He mentions waiting for 27 years, which is the same amount of time that passes before Pennywise returns in ‘It’. Skarsgard who played Pennywise in 2017’s ‘It’ said: “I waited 27 years”!

Some of the major references that were easy to spot include the Shawshank Prison, the occurrence of the number 19, Jerusalem’s Lot bus stop, and Jackie Torrance (Jane Levy), the hotel caretaker in ‘The Shining’. An important character of ‘Castle Rock’ from King’s books is Alan Pangborn, the sheriff of ‘Castle Rock’ from ‘The Dark Half’ and ‘Needful Things’.
In the first episode of ‘Castle Rock’ season 1, we meet Henry Deaver who is defending Leanne Chambers. She is on death row for killing her abusive husband, Richard Chambers, who is one of the antagonists from King’s novel ‘The Body’ and 1986 movie ‘Stand By Me’. ‘The Body’ was about a group of teenagers who were in search of a rumoured corpse near a set of railway tracks. In episode 2, there is a mention of a body once found near the tracks.
When the Kid stands on the edge of the building, he hears a jumble of voices. One of them clearly asks, “Wanna see a body”? This line has been mentioned in both Stephen King’s book and movie.

At numerous points in season 1, a low-frequency hum which is referred to as “The schisma” which enables the characters to see through time. If we recall King’s greatest ‘Dark Tower’ series, we know it spanned around multiple universes.

Just at the beginning of ‘Castle Rock’ Season 2, feature several theories and references connected with Stephen King’s complicated world. This includes a page from ‘Salem’s Lot’, a ripped page from ‘Dolores Claiborne’, a blueprint of Shawshank Penitentiary and the words “Misery Returns” from the book ‘Misery’.
Season 2 starts with Annie Wilkes from ‘Misery’ driving into the town of Jerusalem’s Lot which is a reference from King’s second novel ‘Salem’s Lot’. We further get to see other important characters such as Pop, Ace, and the Merrills. Pop was the owner of the Emporium Galorium in the short story ‘The Sun Dog’. Whereas Ace was in King’s ‘Needful Things’ and ‘The Body’.
The major similarity between ‘Castle Rock’ Season 2 episodes and the novel ‘Misery’ is that both the Annies have killed their father. Also, her famous line “I’m your number one fan” has been shown as something Annie’s father told her when she was young. In ‘Misery’, Annie decides to make Paul suffer by chopping his foot off with an axe. But ‘Castle Rock’ showed only glimpses of Annie tying someone to the bed to torture him. Other easter eggs include the Marsten House that looks like ‘The Dark Tower’, and a kid dressed up as a clown while holding a balloon (‘It’).

‘Castle Rock’ cancelled on Hulu?
Hulu has decided to cancel ‘Castle Rock’. Hence there will be no season 3 of ‘Castle Rock’. No specific reason has been shared by the makers or Hulu regarding its cancellation. However, fans of Stephen King’s work will get to see other shows based on his work in future. Till then you can watch ‘The Stand’ on CBS, ‘Mr. Mercedes’ on Peacock and the second season of ‘The Outsider’ on HBO.
