- Will there be a season 5 of 13 Reasons Why?
A show on social issues concerning youngsters
‘13 Reasons Why’ is not a show for the faint-hearted. The first season of the series dealt with the suicideof Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford) and the events that ultimately led her to it. Developed by showrunner Brian Yorkey, the series dealt with relevant social issues that affect today’s youth such as bullying, harassment, rape, assault, racism, mental health issues, police brutality, homophobia, abortion, HIV, amongst others.
The series was heart-breaking and gut-wrenching due to its graphic and triggering portrayal of rape and suicide, to the extent that mental health professionals started expressing their concerns regarding the same. This led to Netflix running disclaimers at the beginning of episodes to warn the viewers about the content and subsequently even editing the suicide scene in season one.

Season 2 of the award-winning series focused on the aftermath of Hannah’s death and on how the male lead, Clay Jensen (Dylan Minnette), was dealing with it and was met with mixed reviews. Season 3 and 4 were met with negative reviews due to poor writing and improper execution of themes.
The series has time and again been lauded for the performances of its cast members who have all done exceptional work. The makers of the show have spoken of the show as a flagbearer of mental health awareness, as it provides a deeper understanding of the importance of a healthy mind.

Season 4 – Where did it end?
Season 4 revolved around the characters applying for college and Clay’s declining mental health. The season finale saw the tragic death of Justin Folley, due to AIDS complications and Clay attempting suicide by cop. Clay was ultimately saved by Sheriff Diaz and was later chosen as the valedictorian. The finale ended with the recipients of Hannah’s tapes burying them and Clay deciding to continue therapy. The last shot was of Clay leaving with Tony for a road trip. Minnette, while talking about his character at the end of the series finale, said, “You don’t see Clay fully recovered. You see him come to terms with what he’s struggling with — being able to say it in front of an entire school at graduation and be able to own it — and have an optimistic outlook on life … but you don’t see him recover”.
The end was quite conclusive and was quite bittersweet for fans after four excruciatingly painful seasons. However, the series was met with a lot of criticism for its poor story-telling and also became a subject of controversy for introducing the AIDS storyline. It was the least successful season of the show so far.
Will there be a season 5? Dylan Minnette has some ideas.
Well, it is quite unlikely. The last two season of the series was not too successful and were attracting negative reviews from critics and audiences alike. But that hasn’t stopped Minnette from imagining how a hypothetical season 5 would look like. He was heard saying in an interview, that it would probably have Clay quarantining with his family in Evergreen County, along with the ghosts of Hannah, Bryce, and Justin. Jokingly, he said, “It’s all set in one room. Damn, actually we should have done this”.
A lot of fans believe that considering the kind of space the show occupied in pop-culture, it is likely that someday we will get a reboot or reunion of the series. However, as of now, the makers of the series are in no hurry to do so. It is only with time that we will see whether a revival will ever be in process.
