It’s a story told a hundred times over, and yet Netflix has somehow made it different. The animated adaptation of a Japanese video game series Castlevania has been done so brilliantly that it got renewed for a fourth season.
With the last season leaving us off on an interesting storyline, the wait for Castlevania season 4 has fans spawning several crazy theories.
The series is partly a retelling and reboot of Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse and follows Trevor Belmont, who hunts vampires and is the last of the Belmonts, exiled from society because of rumours that the family practised black magic.
He has set out on a quest to defeat Dracula, who is bent upon avenging his human wife Lisa’s death by making the entire human race pay for it. So, he summons an entire army of demons, leading to lots of showdowns between demons and humans in the course of the series. Trevor is joined on his journey by Sypha, a sorceress, and Alucard, the son of Dracula himself.
Critics have held Castlevania to be one of the best adaptations of video games of all time, paying homage to the game series while also being a wonderfully animated and engaging TV series in itself.
A quick recap
Before we get wondering about Castlevania season 4, here’s a quick recap of what happens in the previous seasons. (There may be spoilers ahead!)
By the end of season 2, Trevor, Alucard and Sypha manage to kill Dracula. Then, in the next season, the monks of Lindenfeld try to bring Dracula back to life, but find him reunited in hell with Lisa.

How Dracula’s Death In Castlevania Season 4 Will Drastically Change The Plot
Even though Dracula is no longer on Earth, the vampire Carmilla is busy making plans of taking over Waallachia, along with her Council of Sisters who have brought Hector, Dracula’s devil forgemaster, under their control. Meanwhile, Alucard has become disillusioned, and seems to be taking more and more after his father.
Will Dracula return in season 4?
There is speculation that Dracula might be returning in season 4. Although he is killed in season 2, the monks of Lindenfeld are able to open a portal to hell, almost bringing Dracula back to Earth. Now that we know that this is possible, someone else could try again and actually succeed in bringing Dracula back to the mortal realm.
Moreover, if someone does succeed in bringing him back, this would likely fill the vampire with rage again. Dracula swore vendetta against humans for separating him from his wife by killing her. If he is brought to Earth, the motivation remains the same: humans will have yet again separated him from his wife.
Dracula returning in season 4 would make for a dark storyline and work well in the series.
Is Dracula actually a secret Belmont?
In the world of Castlevania, the Belmonts are a clan of vampire hunters, whose main aim is to thwart their nemesis, Dracula, each time he returns.
Well, in the video game series Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, the storyline goes in this way: Gabriel Belmont, the founder of the Belmont clan, is on a quest to destroy the Lord of Shadows and try and bring his wife back to life. The twist in the tale is that Gabriel is by the end of the game revealed to be living as a vampire by the name of Dracula.
Could this be the storyline the creators of the show decide to take?
It would make season 4 thoroughly intriguing and very binge-worthy, and may also make way for a season 5!
